Kimberly Williams-Paisley struggled with feeling trapped in her own body after being unable to speak for two years.
The host of 'Farmer Wants a Wife,' who is married to country star Brad Paisley, confessed to feeling 'invisible.
Kimberly Williams-Paisley was fighting "to be heard" for two years.
The actress, who is married to country star Brad Paisley, revealed her life-changing diagnosis that made her unable to speak.
"People reported that Williams-Paisley said she felt trapped in her own body and there was a lot of shame involved. She also felt invisible."
In November 2022, she was unable to speak at an annual Alzheimer's fundraiser, which honored her mother who passed away in 2016 from dementia.
""Nothing came out when I put the mic to my mouth, and it was terrifying," she described."
In August, the "Farmer Wants a Wife" host described her medical journey as "challenging" after undergoing surgery to repair one of her vocal cords due to difficulty using her voice.
For weeks, Williams-Paisley's vocal weakness persisted despite her initial belief that she had only strained her voice.

"She added, 'I’m not breathing properly, I’m not relying on my vocal training,' while beating herself up."
She shared that she had days when she didn't feel like doing anything, was excessively tired, and had anxiety thoughts that kept her up at night. While she didn't believe she had clinical depression, she admitted to feeling sad.
Jim's "According to Jim" co-star learned she had muscle tension dysphonia and a left vocal cord paralysis.
According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, dysphonia is a change in the sound or feel of your voice resulting from excessive muscle tension in and around the voice box.
Despite her efforts to manage her diagnosis, Williams-Paisley stated that her voice did not recover.
For a year, she tried various methods, including antidepressants, Invisalign braces, a vegan diet, hypnosis, a psychic, and an astrologer.
She stated that her acting career was at risk or possibly finished.
Although the actress's husband and children witnessed her in her most vulnerable state, they remained her strongest source of support.
"The country music star advised her to do a vocal warm-up with her, saying, "I stepped in it so much!""
"Seeing them embrace me made me feel less alone, as they were great cheerleaders for me."
Brad, whom she married in 2003, shares sons William and Jasper with the actress.
Williams-Paisley stated that although she is not completely healed, her voice has significantly improved.
"Even after a long day of talking, I still can't yell down the road. However, I find it sexy when my voice sounds a little more raspy at the end of the day. Additionally, I've discovered that when I speak quietly, people tend to lean in, which is not a bad thing."
This year, the "Father of the Bride" star posted a slideshow on social media that began with a selfie of her smiling in a hospital bed with a tube attached to her neck. The following image had a black background and the words "Trigger warning: SCAR (and bad artwork)."
In the photo, Williams-Paisley's brother drew a face over her scar with a marker to make it look like a smile.
"Two years ago, I lost my voice on stage at an Alzheimer's event in Nashville. It was embarrassing, scary, and never fully returned."
During her three-hour laryngoplasty, Williams-Paisley remained awake to help "plump up my paralyzed vocal cord so it hits the other one."
She remained in good spirits as she navigated her tumultuous medical journey. She concluded her Instagram post with the words, "if you’re going through hell, don’t come out empty-handed. Was losing my voice worth it? Mm, not exactly. Was it worthless? Not for a second."
Despite her vocal strain, Williams-Paisley is set to host the third season of Fox's reality show, "Farmer Wants a Wife," which premieres on March 20.
