Kevin Bacon wore prosthetics to simulate a typical existence: 'This stinks'
Bacon's fame was boosted by movies such as 'Footloose' and 'JFK'.
Kevin Bacon is no stranger to fame.
For years, the actor was a well-known figure in Hollywood. However, he eventually decided to step away from the limelight. In an attempt to blend in, he wore prosthetics and accessories, but he found the experience unsatisfying.
"In a Vanity Fair interview, Bacon stated, "Although I'm not complaining, my face is easily recognizable. Wearing a hat and glasses can only help to a certain extent.""
He said, "I visited a special effects makeup artist and got a prosthetic disguise to look unrecognizable."
He had a new nose and teeth thanks to the makeup artist, and then he added accessories before heading to The Grove, a popular outdoor shopping center in Los Angeles.
"He remembered how nobody recognized him, and people were pushing past him without being kind. Nobody said "I love you," and he had to wait in line to buy a coffee. He felt like going back to being famous."
As a child, Bacon always desired fame, as he later explained in the interview.
My father, Edmund Bacon, an urban planner, was renowned in Philadelphia, which, in some ways, is a small pond. However, for me, it was a significant pond. I witnessed him being recognized by people when he would stroll down the street, and that experience greatly influenced my life.
"I wanted to be more famous than him. That's something I could discuss with a therapist. It was a motivator for me."
Despite his fame, Bacon remains committed to acting.
He stated, "I am still hungry and believe the best work is yet to come."
"I don't reach out to people to get a gig; rather, I appreciate being recognized for my artistic talents by others. When someone I admire acknowledges my work, it gives me a sense of accomplishment."
The film industry was criticized by him as being "hierarchical bulls***" that fosters a "competitive mindset" among its members.
Bacon emphasized that he wants to be part of a community that supports each other in creating important things, wherever he can feel like he belongs.
