Katy Perry receives death threats after Abigail Breslin slams her.
Dr. Luke, who was accused of sexually assaulting singer Kesha, co-created Katy Perry's new single 'Woman's World'.
Abigail Breslin isn't afraid to speak up for what she believes in.
On Wednesday, the Oscar-nominated actress used X to convey a message that many believed was related to Katy Perry's new single, which she created with Dr. Luke, a producer whom Kesha has accused of sexual assault. As a result, Breslin was subjected to numerous insults and even death threats.
Breslin wrote on social media that working with known abusers in any industry perpetuates the idea that men can engage in disgusting behavior and escape consequences.
She mentioned in the same post that she loves Kesha Rose and that Kesha gave one of the best shows she had ever been to last year.
Since it was revealed that she collaborated with Dr. Luke on her new single, Perry has faced criticism for weeks. Kesha has long accused Dr. Luke of sexual assault and emotional abuse, among other allegations.
This week, Perry released a teaser for the song "Woman's World," leading many to speculate that Breslin was referring to her.
Over 400 replies have been posted to Breslin's post, with some individuals commending her for speaking out while others attempt to diminish her.
You can worry about your struggling music career without tearing down your successful one.
No one cares about you or Kesha, and I hope that helps.
"Katy, you are worthless, disgusting, awful, and much more. Stay away from me, your f---ing pig," one person wrote.
Breslin quickly followed up with another post, stating, "Guys, I didn't say anything terrible. I just said I don't support abusers. Please calm down. And I never said I have an amazing music career. God, can we all just take a deep breath?"
She stated, "I am a long-time advocate against sexual assault and domestic violence, and I will continue to speak out about it, regardless of how many people tell me I am worthless, disgusting, and awful."
The actress responded to both positive and negative comments on her tweet.
She wrote a post condemning abusers and supporting an artist she loves, only to receive death threats.
Alright, goodnight everyone. I won't stop speaking out against abuse. I never said anything negative about your favorite. Please relax, I'm allowed to have my own perspective. You're allowed to criticize my career and treat me poorly, but I don't understand why you would. I stand by what I said. Goodnight.
Breslin's comments have not been addressed by Perry, and she has not spoken about the backlash to her work with Dr. Luke.
In 2014, Kesha accused Dr. Luke of drugging and raping her nine years prior, as well as psychologically abusing her during their professional collaboration. She stated that he harassed her about her weight, belittled her singing abilities, and used his influence to control her career.
Kesha's accusations against Dr. Luke were met with a defamation lawsuit from the doctor, who claimed Kesha made "completely untrue and deeply hurtful" statements to harm his reputation and get out of her record contract.
Kesha and Dr. Luke have reached a settlement in their lawsuit, and have agreed to release a joint statement about it. In their resolution, Kesha and Dr. Luke each state their respective positions.
"I cannot recount everything that happened that night," Kesha wrote. "As I have always said, only God knows what happened. I am looking forward to closing the door on this chapter of my life and beginning a new one."
She stated, 'I wish nothing but peace to all parties involved.'
Dr. Luke stated that he is absolutely certain that nothing happened to Kesha in 2005, and he never drugged or assaulted her.
I have fought to clear my name for nearly 10 years, but it is time for me to move on with my life. I wish Kesha well.
