Katherine Waterston isn’t a big fan of artificial intelligence.
She told Planet Chronicle Digital that, like all technology, there is both the potential for incredible innovation and a real threat, and therefore needs to be highly regulated.
An AI home assistant wreaked havoc on a family's life in the horror film "Afraid," starring Waterston earlier this year.
""The development rate is too fast, and it's a concern not only in my industry but also generally," she stated."
She expressed her fear with a simple phrase, "Terrifying."
Currently, Waterston is starring in "The Agency" on Paramount+ alongside Showtime, a spy thriller featuring Michael Fassbender and Richard Gere.
"The cast of characters, the incredible story, the incredible collection of directors involved, and the Butterworths as screenwriters made it an embarrassment of riches and a no-brainer for her to sign on for her role as a CIA agent," she said.

"Like all technology, there's the potential for incredible innovation and a real threat and obviously needs to be highly regulated." — Katherine Waterston
"Waterston stated that he was struck by the unique take of the script on the world of espionage. He noted that the glamorous take or the cynical take is often seen, but he felt that the script struck a fair balance with a skeptical take. This skeptical take implies that there is no perfect truth, and it unlocks a lot of story and character development."
"Discovering the essence of something is a complex and enigmatic task, as individuals are elusive and contradictory. People often speak the truth from one side of their mouth while lying from the other. As a result, it feels like there is a wealth of potential stories to explore."
As she prepared for her role, Waterston became fascinated by the history of women in the CIA.

"I recently fell deeply in love with women in the CIA. I discovered an amazing book called 'The Sisterhood' that delved into the history of women in the CIA. This book proved incredibly useful for me in developing my character and understanding the qualities required to succeed in this field," she stated.
"To excel in my job and navigate the challenges that may come for my character in the future, I must comprehend the requirements for success in this environment in the first season."
