'Kate Winslet shares the reason behind Leonardo DiCaprio's tears during the filming of 'Revolutionary Road'.'
In 1997's 'Titanic' and 2008's 'Revolutionary Road,' DiCaprio and Winslet shared the screen together.
Kate Winslet is revealing the special gifts she and Leonardo DiCaprio exchanged and the heartwarming tale behind them.
In the September issue of Harper's Bazaar UK, which was released on August 8th, Winslet talked about her bond with DiCaprio and how they grew closer while filming "Revolutionary Road" in 2008.
While filming the movie, the actress had a dream where she gave DiCaprio a paperweight with the inscription "Wherever you go, I will go too," and he gave her a ring with the same message engraved on it.
"I shared my dream with him, and he cried," she said. "Let's say he was deeply affected. And after the shoot, we did it for each other."
In 1997, Winslet and DiCaprio first met on the set of "Titanic," where they played lovers Rose and Jack. They later collaborated again in 2008, starring as a married couple in the 1950s in "Revolutionary Road."
Since filming "Titanic," Winslet and DiCaprio have remained close friends, with Winslet stating in Harper's Bazaar that she has known DiCaprio longer than she has known her children and husband.
In 1997, Winslet and DiCaprio gained international fame with the release of a film that won an Academy Award for "Best Picture." Winslet received a "Best Actress" nomination. The sudden fame was challenging for Winslet, who admitted to feeling the pressure and often hiding from the paparazzi by climbing over her garden fence and having dinner with her neighbor.
"I experienced a lot of bullying in the media during my twenties, which affected me deeply," she stated. "Those were the years when I constantly changed my appearance."
Winslet has taken on the role of Lee Miller, a model turned war correspondent, in her latest project.
In order to prepare for her role, Winslet stopped exercising and told crew members that she was intentionally flaunting her "belly rolls" when they suggested she cover them up.
"I believe people understand not to say, 'You should consider doing something about those wrinkles,'" she stated. "As time goes on, I feel more confident in my own skin, which allows me to disregard the opinions of others."
Despite experiencing body shaming early in her career, the actress has chosen to continue appearing in nude scenes and has developed a thicker skin.
In a September 2023 interview with Vogue, the actress from "The Reader" expressed her happiness that modern young actors no longer face the same pressure to maintain a slim figure for the cameras, as she did.
"Young actresses today are fearless, and it makes me proud," she told Vogue. "I think, Yes, all the struggles, the using my voice for years, being finger-pointed at and laughed at - I don't care! It was all worth it. Because the culture is changing in a way that I couldn't have imagined in my wildest dreams in my 20s."
