Kaley Cuoco faced a tough choice and decided to rehome her dog after conflicts with her fiancé's pet.
Shirley, Kaley Cuoco's beloved dog, passed away from a highly aggressive form of bone cancer.
After the passing of her dog Shirley, Kaley Cuoco remembered the "agonizing choice" she had made to give her pet up for adoption.
On Nov. 24, Cuoco shared on social media her explanation for rehoming her pet and the sad news of her dog's passing.
The actress, who founded Oh Norman with the mission of "getting dogs adopted," emphasized the importance of honesty in her video and wanted to clarify her rehoming situation.
In a video uploaded to Instagram, Cuoco started by saying, "You all know I had Shirley for a very long time."
She suddenly stopped seeing the dog she had since she was 6 weeks old, and people started asking where she was because it's unusual for her to stop posting about the dog.
The rehoming of Shirley's dog was a result of her "mega fights" with her fiancé Tom Pelphrey.
She is a special dog to me, and when my love of my life, Tom, moved across the country with his beautiful German Shepherd, Blue, it added to the bond between us.
Unfortunately, Blue and Shirley began having huge arguments a couple of years ago, as Cuoco stated.
"I loved her so much, but I was really scared. I didn’t want something really bad to happen or possibly a person accidentally be there and get hurt." — Kaley Cuoco
Shirley, the "Big Bang Theory" actress, revealed that she was "determined to kill" Blue, her dog, but only got into dog fights with Cuoco's other dog, Norman, whom she grew up with.
Shirley was a "people dog" who loved being around others, but ultimately, Cuoco decided to rehome her dog due to her behavior.
"Although I adored her greatly, I was terrified. I didn't want anything terrible to occur or for someone to accidentally be present and get injured," she stated.
Shirley was rehomed by Cuoco with her pet handler, Tony and his wife Angie, who were assisting in her care.
Cuoco continued, "They loved her so much, and it was an excruciating decision."
Cuoco and Pelphrey believe they made the right decision in rehoming Shirley, despite Cuoco being afraid of being judged for it.
Shirley, who was an actress, passed away from a very aggressive bone cancer, as explained by the actress.
"Cuoco cried while sharing the incredible life of her nearly 14-year-old dog and the challenges they faced."
Cuoco shared photos of herself and Shirley on Instagram, but initially turned off comments on her post.
Cuoco and Pelphrey announced their engagement in August after two years of dating.
The actress has been married twice before, first to Karl Cook for three years, and then to tennis player Ryan Sweeting from 2013 to 2016.
Before becoming engaged to Pelphrey, Cuoco stated that she was finished with marriage.
"In 2022, she told Glamour that she would never get married again and emphasized that it was a definite decision."
"She stated that she desires a long-lasting relationship or partnership, as she believes in the power of love and has experienced incredible relationships in the past. She knows that such relationships exist and enjoys the idea of being someone's partner and having that companionship."
