Joan Vassos, the 'Golden Bachelorette,' and her fiancé reveal secrets to harmoniously blending families without conflict.
Both Joan Vassos and Chock Chapple are parents to adult children from prior partnerships.
On the reality television show, Joan Vassos, the Golden Bachelorette, found love.
On Wednesday night, Vassos received a proposal from Chock Chapple, 60.
Chapple expressed to Vassos, 61, how happy he was to be in her life and how she was in his, stating that their journey together had been magical and that she was the most selfless woman he had ever met.
He also pledged to cherish Vassos' deceased spouse by expressing love for her daily.
Chapple concluded, "Joan, you will never be invisible to me. I'm going to tell you that I love you every day, I promise that. I still think I'm in a dream, and I'm just going to wake up. But Joan, I love you and I want you to be in my life."
"That's what's great about having adult kids, because, you know, you can leave them on their own, and they'll figure it out, and they're having fun." — Joan Vassos
In an interview with Planet Chronicle Digital, Vassos and Chapple discussed the benefits of blending families with adult children; Chapple is a father of two and Vassos is a mother of four.
"Being of age means I don't have to be a father. They are adults who have their own families, so that aspect is removed. I simply want to be the man who makes their mother happy, not their father," Chapple stated.

Having adult kids is great because they can handle being left on their own and figure things out, and they enjoy themselves.
Vassos observed that her children's acceptance of Chapple was a "slow progression." Two of her children were present in Tahiti for the couple's engagement.
"Yes, it has been a gradual process. Two of my children visited Tahiti for the engagement part of this journey. They met Chock and quickly fell in love with him. They knew that he loved me and wanted to make me happy. This brings them joy, as it is what they desire for me."
"My other two have now met. One of them was in the audience last night watching the show and he was there. We finally got to meet in person. However, he has developed a relationship with Chock, who is a uniter," Vassos continued.

Chapple has already started to establish relationships with her children in a really playful way, as Vassos noted.
Before heading to the East Coast, Chapple and Vassos will host an engagement party in Los Angeles, as reported by US Weekly.
"Chapple stated that their wedding will be larger than most, as they have friends traveling from across the country to attend. The occasion serves as their official coming-out party as a couple and they are thrilled about it."
Chapple and Vassos, during their interview with Planet Chronicle Digital, stated that they are not in a hurry to get married and have been undecided about whether to have a live, televised wedding.
Vassos admitted that he was slightly convincing himself to go through with the plan. He had once believed that their love story had been heavily publicized and it would be refreshing to have a more intimate setting, surrounded by friends, family, and perhaps even a destination location.
Joan Vassos believes that having adult children is beneficial because they are capable of solving problems on their own.
However, as I reflect more deeply, we have brought countless individuals with us on this journey of our growth as a couple, including millions of people. Should we abruptly halt our journey at the moment of our wedding and the beginning of our new life together? Perhaps it is not the most gracious decision. I believe that sharing this final chapter of our journey together is the proper course of action.
We have an obligation to continue our love story and portray it as an example for others to follow. We will not rush into a wedding after three months; instead, we will take our time and do things right.
The couple plan on getting an apartment together in New York City.
"In the first year, we must determine our path in life. Chock has a business in Kansas, while I have family in Maryland. Although I won't relocate, he has obligations in Kansas. According to Vassos, we will split our time between Maryland and Kansas, but we have an exciting plan. Both of us have long dreamed of living in a big city, specifically New York. Chock surprised me by suggesting we find a place to call home in the city."
Chapple and Vassos concurred that relocating to New York City would be an ideal adventure.
"Vassos stated that both he and his companion enjoy the vibrancy of the city and the abundance of activities it offers. Their desire is to explore the city through walking and immersing themselves in its culture, visiting exciting restaurants and experiencing its unique offerings. They have friends in the city and plan to be there during the holidays, which is the ideal time to visit New York City. In Vassos' opinion, living in the city is a completely different lifestyle than what he and his companion have previously experienced."
Chapple and Vassos bonded over the deaths of their spouses during their first one-on-one date. In 2021, Joan's husband of 32 years died of pancreatic cancer, and Chapple's fiancée, Kathy, who he was engaged to for nine years, died five months after being diagnosed with glioblastoma in 2022, according to People.
Heather and Chock were married for 12 years before divorcing in 2010. They have two children, Tyler, 23, and Taylor, 25.
Vassos is a grandmother of three and has four adult children: Nick, 34, Erica, 33, Allison, 30, and Luke, 28.
Gerry Turner's season of "The Golden Bachelor" featured Vassos as a contestant, but he left the show early to assist his daughter, who was struggling with postpartum depression.
