'Jeopardy!' fans criticize 'offensive' ruling: 'Unfair decision'
The controversial ruling was given by host Ken Jennings.
The decision made on a recent "Jeopardy!" episode has sparked controversy among viewers.
In the "Waterfalls" category on Wednesday's game show, Kelly Proulx buzzed in to answer a clue. However, she added an extra "s" to her response, which led host Ken Jennings to deny her the points. This has been referred to as "brutal" by fans.
A Yosemite waterfall with a delicate ribbon of water that dances in the air like a transparent fabric is known as this bridal attire.
Proulx answered, "What is Bridalveil Falls?"
"I'm sorry, it's Bridalveil Fall, not what you were thinking of. So, what is a bridal veil?"
Although Proulx was the returning champion, she lost the game because Isaac Hirsch had a significant lead, and none of the contestants correctly guessed the Final Jeopardy clue, so her incorrect response did not contribute to her loss.
The ruling by Jennings was met with criticism from fans, who deemed it a "harsh decision."
"Kelly should hold a grudge over this decision," one person wrote on the "Jeopardy!" Reddit page, while another called it "extremely pedantic."
Kelly was robbed, and the ruling on Bridal Veil Fall/Falls was unjust. Adding the S makes it seem like we'll accept it.
Although I usually respect judges, I am furious with their ruling. The evidence was not conclusive, but she still got it right. That was repulsive.
The problem is that judges were only interested in the name of the article of clothing - "bridal veil." It was argued that by providing additional information in the full name of the location, Proulx was responsible for being completely accurate, even down to the letter.
This week, Zendaya was the subject of another clue on the long-running game show, prompting fans to express their dissatisfaction.
In 2024, tennis will become steamy, as revealed by the single-named star who appeared on Disney Channel's 'Good Luck Charlie.'
Despite Staci Garner correctly guessing Zendaya, the clue caused confusion online as the actress only appeared in one episode of "Good Luck Charlie."
A user online wrote that "zendaya did not star in 'good luck, charlie,' as jeopardy falsely stated."
Zendaya was not on 'Good Luck, Charlie'... correct?
"The one crossover episode?" another X user asked.
Disney's "Shake It Up," which ran for three seasons from 2010 to 2013, was where Zendaya began her career as a child star. In a single crossover episode, she played the character of Rocky Blue.
Planet Chronicle Digital's Lauryn Overhultz contributed to this report.
