Jamie Foxx experienced a "brain bleed that resulted in a stroke," and he "forgot 20 days during a weekslong coma."
In April 2023, while filming 'Back in Action' with Cameron Diaz, Foxx experienced a 'medical emergency'.
Jamie Foxx is back and better than ever.
Last year, Foxx, 55, suffered from a mystery illness that left him hospitalized in a weekslong coma. He has now set the record straight on his health crisis.
In his Netflix comedy special "Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was," he revealed the cause of his medical emergency. The special was shot in Atlanta in October.
During the special, Foxx frequently cried as he shared with fans the reasons for his weekslong coma.
"April 11, I had a severe headache and requested an aspirin from my friend. However, before I could obtain the medication, I went outside. Unfortunately, I don't recall the next 20 days."
Foxx's health was failing terribly, and his vitals were down. The "Beat Shazam" host said he was on the brink of death after he passed out and went into a coma that lasted several weeks.
Despite receiving a cortisone shot from the first doctor, Foxx's sister Deidra Dixon knew something was wrong with him and continued to search for other hospitals and urge doctors to help him further.
At the time of Foxx's hospitalization, doctors informed his family that he was experiencing a brain bleed that resulted in a stroke.
The doctor at Piedmont Hospital stated, "We'll lose him if I don't go in his head immediately."
Foxx's doctor informed his sister after his surgery, "Your prayers have been answered, as we couldn't locate the source of the issue. Unfortunately, he is experiencing a stroke. Although he may fully recover, this year will be the most challenging for him."
I woke up on May 4 and found myself in a wheelchair, unable to walk due to the stroke that left me dizzy for 20 days and caused memory loss.
"At first, the "Django Unchained" actor believed his stroke was a "joke." He didn't seek therapy until a healthcare worker pressured him to get help, as he was convinced that "Jamie Foxx doesn't have strokes.""
The therapist instructed him to stop the arrogant behavior and the self-centered attitude, emphasizing that the stroke doesn't care about his identity.
Foxx stated that the moment provided him with a reality check, causing him to snap out of it and work diligently towards his recovery.
During the medical scare, Foxx was in Georgia working with Cameron Diaz on the Netflix film "Back in Action." He received treatment in a Georgia hospital while "undergoing tests." Foxx returned to the "Back in Action" set in January 2024.
Corinne, Anelise, and Foxx's sister "held it down" at the hospital. Corinne did not allow anyone else to visit Foxx, as she did not want anyone to see him in a hospital setting. Despite being given "every medication," Foxx's condition was not improving.
During his near-death experience, Foxx relied heavily on his faith until he witnessed a miracle.
In the hospital, Anelise regularly strummed the guitar for Foxx, and his vitals improved miraculously.
My vitals are so bad, I'm about to die. But then a miracle happened, and it was my youngest daughter who saved me. She's 14 and snuck into my hospital room with my guitar. 'I know what my daddy needs,' she said.
"As she played, my vitals plummeted; it was God in that guitar, providing a spiritual defibrillator."
Jamie Foxx claims he was in a coma and near death during a mysterious health crisis, according to an insider.
Despite doctors being unable to explain what caused Foxx's coma, he eventually awoke after his daughter continued playing the guitar for him.
During his Netflix special, Foxx likened Sean "Diddy" Combs to the devil.
Foxx stated that his life didn't flash before his face, it was oddly peaceful, he saw the tunnel but not the light.
"I was a bit warm in the tunnel... Am I on the wrong path? I glanced at the end of the tunnel and thought I saw the devil... Or was that Puffy? I'm just messing around, but if that was Puffy, he had a flaming bottle of Johnson & Johnson... No, I'm just joking."
Foxx referenced the claims that Combs was responsible for his hospitalization.
"I know what you're thinking 'Diddy?'" Foxx joked. "I left the parties early, I was out by 9:00 - something doesn't look right. It's slippery in here."
During his special, the comedian stated, "Staying funny is the key to survival," while performing several impressions, including President-elect Donald Trump.
Foxx’s medical scare rocked headlines in April 2023.
On April 12, Corinne disclosed that her father was recuperating from a health issue.
"Thanks to prompt action and careful attention, he is now on the road to recovery," she posted on social media. "We value your support and kindly request privacy during this period. The family is grateful for your prayers."
In May 2023, Nick Cannon hosted "Beat Shazam" while Foxx was absent, and the following month, Foxx missed his movie premiere for "They Cloned Tyrone" due to a medical mystery. His co-stars stated that he was not answering phone calls at the time.
He kept his medical complication private for three months before admitting it in a video he posted to Instagram, where he revealed he went through a difficult journey.
Foxx previously mentioned that his sister Deidra and daughter Corinne saved his life.
"Having my family show up in such a way, with them keeping everything under wraps and not letting anything out, made me feel great. I hope everyone can experience the same level of protection during difficult times."
Foxx denied rumors that he had been blinded or paralyzed while in the hospital, stating that the allegations were false, but he had experienced a difficult journey.
"I encountered obstacles on my journey to recovery, but I am now returning and able to work," he stated.
Mike Tyson, the Grammy winner, has eight upcoming projects planned for the future, according to IMDb. He recently wrapped filming on "Back in Action" after production was halted following his medical scare. Additionally, Tyson will serve as an executive producer for a long-awaited Mike Tyson biopic, which has been in the works for nearly a decade. The film will be directed by Martin Scorsese and Antoine Fuqua, and Tyson will collaborate with Foxx on the project as well. Tyson changed his name from Eric Marlon Bishop to honor comedian Redd Foxx, a pioneer in the civil rights movement who found success on television portraying Fred G. Sanford on "Sanford and Son."
Corinne, 30, is shared by Foxx and his ex-wife, Connie Kline. Additionally, Foxx is the father of Anelise Bishop, 15, with his ex-girlfriend, Kristin Grannis.
Throughout his illustrious career, Foxx showcased all of his projects in his Netflix special, including "In Living Color," "Ali," "Rio," "Django Unchained," and his Oscar-winning portrayal of Ray Charles in "Ray." He ended the special by performing some of his most popular hits, such as "Slow Jamz" and "Gold Digger," alongside Kanye West.
