James Bond film is a 'nightmare' with zero storytelling, according to Daniel Craig.
In five films, James Bond has been portrayed by English actor Daniel Craig.
Craig recalled how one film in particular was a "f---ing nightmare" to put together due to the 2007-08 Writers Guild of America strike.
After receiving critical acclaim for his Bond debut in "Casino Royale" in 2006, the 56-year-old action star left critics and fans with more questions than answers after the release of "Quantum of Solace" in 2008.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Craig stated that "Quantum of Solace" was a challenging follow-up film due to the writer's strike, numerous shooting locations, and inconsistent storyline.
Paul Haggis rejected the script, joined a picket line, and we didn't have writers, so we didn't have a script. We should have never started production, but we did.
"F---ing nightmare. Paul Haggis did a pass on the script, then he went off and joined a picket line, and we didn’t have writers, so we didn’t have a script. We probably should never have gone and started production, but we did." — Daniel Craig
"I ended up writing a lot of that film, but we were in that state because that's what we're allowed to do. I was allowed to work."
Craig always aspired to become a spy, but he never imagined that his dream would actually come true.
"I ended up writing a lot of that film — I probably shouldn’t really say, and I do not want a credit, it’s fine — but we were in that state because that’s what we’re allowed to do. I was allowed to work. — Daniel Craig
Craig compared playing Bond to portraying both Batman and Spider-Man, but he realized he couldn't play all of them. He wanted to be all of those characters, but when he was acting, he didn't think about it. He believed it was unlikely to ever happen to him.
Craig stated, "Since there was no script at the time, my arrogance was unjustified, but I simply said, 'Until I see a script, I can't make a decision.' It was fear, as you mentioned, about that thing and many others, how it would change my life."
"At the time, I was making a decent living and was content with my life. However, if I had continued to do what I was doing, I would have been even happier. But being typecast as James Bond was not what I wanted."
A fortuitous encounter with a retired Bond actor steered him onto his path.
"At an event, I sat next to Pierce Brosnan and conversed with him about it. He simply replied, "Go for it. Just go for it," which I took to heart and followed his advice."
