The Nobel Peace Prize winner's death was confirmed by the Carter Center in a release shared with Planet Chronicle Digital on Sunday afternoon.
The king expressed his deep sorrow upon hearing about the demise of former President Carter, who was a dedicated public servant and devoted his life to promoting peace and human rights.
"In 1977, he visited the United Kingdom and his dedication and humility inspired many, leaving a lasting impression on me."
President Carter's family and the American people are in my thoughts and prayers, as King Charles stated.
Carter died at his home in Georgia surrounded by his family.
"Chip Carter, the former president's son, stated that his father was a hero not only to him but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights, and unselfish love. He shared that his siblings and he had the privilege of experiencing their father's impact on the world through their common beliefs. The world is their family because of the way their father brought people together, and they thanked everyone for honoring his memory by continuing to live these shared beliefs."
President Carter's family includes his children Jack, Chip, Jeff, and Amy, 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 77 years, Rosalynn Smith Carter, who passed away on Nov. 19, 2023, and one grandchild.
The state funeral for President Carter will have public observances in Atlanta and Washington, D.C., followed by a private interment in Plains, Georgia. The final arrangements, including all public events and motorcade routes, are still pending.
