Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall's son claims that young people are unaware of the past and do not recognize his famous parents.
A new documentary about the late 'Casablanca' star, 'Bogart: Life Comes in Flashes,' has been released featuring Stephen Bogart.
Many people today are not familiar with Stephen Bogart's famous parents, who were prominent stars during Hollywood's golden era.
Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall's son confessed that young people today are largely unaware of their fame.
The 75-year-old recalled to Us Weekly, "I went to the doctor and the assistant came in. The doctor said, 'Hey, do you know who this is? He’s Humphrey Bogart’s son,'"
"Two months ago, he shared that this smart woman asked, 'Who?'"
Stephen is now working on a new documentary titled "Bogart: Life Comes in Flashes" to provide a fresh perspective on the "Casablanca" star.
In 1957, at the age of 57, the Oscar-winning actor and original Rat Pack member, who starred in "Sabrina," "The Maltese Falcon," and "The African Queen," passed away.
Stephen admitted that he wasn't surprised by the "lack of awareness" among younger generations about classic Hollywood, which often "boggles his mind regularly."
"Stephen told Us Weekly that kids are unaware of the past because they are too focused on their phones and the latest Marvel releases. He clarified that he doesn't dislike Marvel, as he used to collect comic books, but they lack knowledge of the past."
Stephen's mother, who received two Tony Awards, starred in "How to Marry a Millionaire" with Marilyn Monroe, as well as "Murder on the Orient Express" and "Sex and the Single Girl," among other films.
"… Kids don’t really know because it’s tough when you’re looking at your phone, and you want to see the latest Marvel. Not that I have anything against Marvel. I used to collect comic books, but they’re not aware of the past at all." — Stephen Bogart
Bogart and the model-turned-sultry voiced screen siren shared the screen in several iconic films, including "To Have and Have Not," "The Big Sleep," "Key Largo," and "Two Guys from Milwaukee." As a result, they became one of Hollywood's most famous couples of all time.
Bacall died in 2014. She was 89.
Stephen expressed hope that the documentary would enable individuals to reflect on their lives and follow the development of the people who have influenced their journey to the present.
Bogart and Bacall first worked together in the 1944 film "To Have and Have Not." They fell in love on set and later got married in 1945.
Stephen previously told Planet Chronicle Digital that the actress was attracted to his father due to his good looks.
"Stephen said, "She was 19 and he was 44. However, I believe it was her strength that made her stand out. She was a strong woman who never took anyone's crap. He admired her talent, but she was also able to keep up with him.""
Despite having emotional affairs, Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart remained devoted to each other.
Bacall remained by her husband's bedside until his death. Following his passing, she struggled but eventually found the strength to cope.
Stephen said Bacall coped with the loss by leaving California behind.
"Stephen stated, "A year later, we were residing in England. Following that, we relocated to New York. I owned a house with a pool in California. Life was quite pleasant. Suddenly, there was a significant shift for all of us. However, I believe she eventually began to pursue her aspirations. She had always desired to return to New York because her mother resided there. I think that was crucial for her. Additionally, she became involved in theater.""
Bogart's films were frequently discussed by Stephen's mother, even though he eventually remarried in 1961 to actor Jason Robards and their union lasted until 1969.
"Stephen stated that she would frequently discuss him and it seemed as though she was constantly questioning what her father would think or what he believed in, which was treating people fairly. She wanted him to follow in his father's footsteps and always tell the truth. Stephen emphasized that this was a significant matter."
In 1958, when Bacall relocated to New York, she made the Dakota building her permanent residence. Despite her busy schedule that continued into her 70s, Stephen revealed that her final years were challenging.
He admitted that she had been sick and spent a lot of time in bed over the past few years.
"Although she enjoyed staying at home, it wasn't great for her. She was accustomed to being active and going out, with assistants available to help her whenever she needed. However, those last few years were challenging for her."
Has Stephen ever been tempted to pursue the family business? No way, he declared.
"Stephen replied, "Comparisons would have been evident. No, never. Additionally, I was terrible at it. I participated in a few plays in high school. I wasn't great. I couldn't do it. I was simply not very good at it. It's challenging to become someone else.""
