Over 150 'Sweet Valley High' books were written by a team of various writers, including a 92-year-old author.
The creator of the "Sweet Valley High" book series, Francine Pascal, has passed away at the age of 92.
On Tuesday, Penguin Random House, Pascal's publisher, confirmed her death to the Associated Press. Laurie Wenk-Pascal, her daughter, informed the New York Times that she died due to lymphoma.
Wenk-Pascal did not immediately respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.
With the help of a team of writers, Pascal produced more than 150 "Sweet Valley High" books, which centered on the adventures of identical twins Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield as they dealt with teenage romance, friendships, and other challenges.
According to the AP, the first book of the series was published in 1983, and 180 more were produced over the next 20 years. Additionally, there were several spin-offs, including "Sweet Valley Twins" and "Sweet Valley University."
Hundreds of millions of copies of the books were sold worldwide after they were translated into 27 languages.
The TV show featuring real-life twins Cynthia and Brittany Daniel aired for four seasons from 1994 to 1997.
In a 2012 interview with The Guardian, Pascal stated that her objective was to ensure that "Sweet Valley High" remained enjoyable for all viewers.
"She stated that her previous books were intended for a more refined and knowledgeable audience. However, she aimed to make Sweet Valley accessible to all readers, regardless of their level of education. Despite the action-packed nature of the series, she explained that it resonated with people because it didn't depict the lives they led."
