Five individuals have been charged in relation to the demise of One Direction vocalist Liam Payne.
Liam Payne, a One Direction singer, passed away in Argentina on October 16th at the age of 31.
An Argentine judge confirmed charges against five individuals two months after Liam Payne's death, as reported by The Associated Press.
Two individuals were placed in preventive prison, a type of pre-trial detention, after being confirmed by a judicial officer that they had provided the One Direction singer with drugs.
On October 16, Payne passed away due to the fall he sustained from the balcony of the third floor room of a hotel in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires, where he was staying, according to the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office No. 16, currently led by Marcelo Roma. Payne was 31 years old.
An employee at the Casa Sur hotel in Palermo called for emergency assistance at 5 p.m. after a guest, who was under the influence of drugs and alcohol, caused damage to some objects in the room.
An employee of a hotel and a waiter were both placed under preventive prison on charges of supplying drugs, according to an official. Both suspects will need to appear before a judge, the outlet reported.
In November, three individuals, including two hotel managers and a businessman, were charged with manslaughter, in addition to Payne, who was also implicated in the incident in Argentina.
Last month, the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office in Argentina received "several dozen testimonies" at their headquarters from various individuals, including hotel staff, family members and friends, medical professionals, biochemists, and psychiatrists.
The review of video footage from hotel security cameras and public roads, as well as Payne's cellphone content, included over 800 hours of video footage and the examination of calls, messages, and chats on messaging applications and social networks.
The prosecution examined various pieces of evidence, including testimonies, video recordings, messages, documents, invoices, social networks, and communications, to determine that Payne received at least four supplies of narcotics from third parties during his stay at the Casa Sur hotel between Oct. 13-16.
According to the Associated Press, toxicology tests revealed that Payne, a 31-year-old, died with cocaine in his system. Prosecutors determined that suicide was not the cause of his death.
The preliminary toxicology report suggested evidence of cocaine exposure, but the final results are still pending and not expected to be made public for weeks. An official explained that the initial results were not an accurate reading of the amount that was circulating in his blood when he died.
An autopsy report released in October indicated that the One Direction singer died from "polytrauma" and "internal and external bleeding."
Cheryl Cole and Payne had a 7-year-old son, Bear, together.
