'Filming for 'Yellowstone' season 4 was the easiest due to Kevin Costner's departure, says Luke Grimes.'
The final episode of 'Yellowstone' premieres on December 15th.
Filming the final episodes of season five of "Yellowstone" without Kevin Costner was a breath of fresh air for Luke Grimes.
In an interview with Esquire, Grimes discussed Costner's absence in the final Western installment.
Grimes stated that it was evident that it was time for Costner to leave, as everyone could see it.
"Kevin's absence meant some conflict was resolved, although it wasn't enjoyable to be around. I'm not blaming anyone, but it was the easiest season we've filmed," he said.
"Not pointing any fingers, but it was actually the easiest season we've filmed." — Luke Grimes
The final episode of "Yellowstone" will be shown on December 15th, as per Grimes, who considers the show's conclusion after seven seasons to be well-timed.
"Playing a character for seven years is a long time, and I had never done it before. I loved every moment of it. However, after reading the final episodes, I realized that there was a sense of finality to it," he said.
Kayce Dutton, portrayed by Grimes on the show, discussed the possibility of a future spin-off.
"He no longer desires to take lives. He is disinterested in maintaining a large, unsustainable ranch. Instead, he seeks a small, idyllic paradise. Simply put."
Taylor Sheridan, the show's creator, intentionally withheld the ending from Grimes.
"From the start, Taylor revealed to me that he knew the show's ending but didn't want me to know it. He believed that if I knew the ending, I would play things differently, and he didn't want me to know anything."
I kept that in mind and planned to wait until we filmed the final episode to read it. However, it had been so long since we shot, and I felt like I didn't remember what we did. I struggled to recall how to play Kayce and couldn't lock in.
Grimes stated, "I believed that reading the final chapter would aid me. After reading it, I was completely immersed in the story once more, and I couldn't envision any other conclusion."
Grimes revealed in an interview with Esquire that he is not currently the biggest "Yellowstone" fan.
"Grimes stated that she wants to give the show a few years to grow on her before she can fully appreciate it. She believes that by doing so, she will be able to enjoy it more and have a clearer understanding of it."
The final "Yellowstone" episode airs on Paramount+ on Dec. 15.
