Experts criticize Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in a documentary about their low points.
A new German TV special, 'The Lost Prince: A Look at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle,' focuses on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Some of the couple's Montecito neighbors have criticized Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, adding to their troubles.
The documentary "Prince Harry – The Lost Prince," which was aired on German network ZDF, examines the life of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in California. According to Vanity Fair, the filmmakers visited the affluent coastal city where they interviewed locals who claimed to reside near the couple.
Royal experts who viewed the special on Planet Chronicle Digital stated that the Sussexes are portrayed as "isolated" as they search for significance in California. The couple relocated to California in 2020 following their departure as senior royals that year.
According to Kinsey Schofield, host of the To Di For Daily podcast, she would describe it as an encyclopedia of Harry and Meghan's low points over the last few years.
"Meghan's low points have been more prominent than her high points, giving the impression that she is as lonely and isolated as rumors suggest. Furthermore, it raises questions about why they are so focused on pursuing communities and photo opportunities abroad if they are not making any progress at home."
In the film, locals tried to involve the couple in their social circle, but they were ignored.
"According to Fordwich, the documentary made it clear that the local Montecito community's invitations to attend events are not being answered by Harry or Meghan, indicating that they are not interested in engaging with the community."
Their neighbor in Montecito claimed that Harry's dogs and bodyguard are his closest companions, she stated.
Since quitting royal duties, Harry, 40, has had a strained relationship with his family due to the unbearable intrusions and racist attitudes of the British press.
Since detailing his rocky relationship with his family in TV interviews, a Netflix docuseries, and his memoir "Spare," the father of two has shared his experiences.
In 2018, the British prince married Meghan, a 43-year-old California native and former actress, who became the Duchess of Sussex.
""One of the biggest revelations from the documentary was that Meghan is not well-liked in her neighborhood and has not been active in the Montecito community, despite her husband's organization frequently emphasizing the importance of community impact," said Schofield."
"It gives you the sense that Meghan is as lonely and isolated as the rumors suggest. Additionally, it makes you wonder why they are so eager to chase after communities and photo ops all over the world if they aren’t even doing anything at home." — Kinsey Schofield, host of the To Di For Daily podcast.
Richard Mineards, a neighbor of the couple, accused them of not contributing much to the area.
"According to UK's DailyMail, he stated that he believes Meghan is not beneficial to our community. He explained that she does not actively participate in community events or engage with the public, unlike Harry who is more outgoing and involved. He added that Meghan is rarely seen in public and Harry is also not as visible."
Ian Pelham Turner, a royal expert, believes the documentary about the Sussexes is an unjust representation of them.
Pelham Turner stated that, in his opinion, the ZDF documentary was a sensationalized attack against Harry and Meghan.
"If residents believe the couple should be part of the community, those criticizing them publicly and privately should respectfully behave in a manner to make them feel welcome."
""Meghan has had a difficult time emotionally over the past few years and may not know who to trust, which makes it challenging for her to socialize with Harry and the children," he said."
Ulrike Grunewald, the director, explained to the UK's Express that working on the film gave her insight into why the royals were concerned about the couple's departure from their senior roles.
"Only those with inside knowledge can make the most damaging allegations," she said to the outlet. "Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are the ones who reveal shocking revelations about the royal family. This made me realize the truth of the late queen's statement that one cannot be 'half in and half out.'"
Grunewald mentioned to the outlet that the couple, who relocated to California in 2020, are still striving to establish a lasting legacy.
Palace sources claim in an explosive new book that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry behaved like a pair of teenagers while together.
""Although it is difficult to see any significant accomplishments of the Archewell Foundation, some people believe that the couple has great potential to positively impact both the British monarchy and liberal society," she stated."
The documentary included a former head of royal protection who criticized the prince for claiming in his memoir that he killed 25 people in Afghanistan.
The Duke of Sussex and his family have been fighting a legal battle for their right to security in the UK. Despite losing their security in 2020, they moved to California.
"Schofield stated that if Harry's argument for additional security is linked to anything he revealed in his book, then he must confront his own reflection. He added that Harry's kill count was not something that anyone wanted or cared about, and it was a poor decision on his part to include it in 'Spare.'"
"Schofield expressed concern for Prince Harry's safety while also wishing he would consider the consequences of his actions more. He wondered if Harry realized the potential danger he was putting his children in by including a certain anecdote in his book."
Harry's comparison of his killed enemies to chess pieces sparked outrage from the Taliban and concern from British veterans, despite his previous discussions about his combat experience.
In Britain, military leaders and veterans argued that publishing a head count breached an unwritten code of conduct. Meanwhile, others contended that Harry's statement could jeopardize the safety of him and British troops globally.
"Pelham Turner stated that he does not see the relevance of a former protection officer discussing Harry's experiences in Afghanistan, as it brings up old wounds. He questioned why the officer would bring up the issue in a documentary if he still fears for Harry's safety."
Fordwich stated that although the documentary does not provide "new disclosures," she asserted that it conveys a crucial message.
"All interviewees confirmed that they are not the public image of activists and charity campaigners, which will reinforce negative images."
"Schofield stated that he felt like Harry and Meghan were in control of their own lives but lacked the necessary skills to handle the opportunities and fame they had established. He advised the Sussexes to trust others and relinquish some control because they were not always the best decision makers."
