Expert: Prince Harry is homesick and focused on making amends while Meghan Markle is focused on winning over Hollywood.
The Duke of Sussex is reportedly searching for properties in the UK.
It is reported that Prince Harry is feeling "homesick" and searching for a new residence in the United States.
The Duke of Sussex is reportedly considering purchasing properties in the UK, with the aim of increasing his visits and initiating peace talks with his family, as shared by Kinsey Schofield on the "To Di For Daily" podcast.
Meghan Markle and her husband, the father of two, reside in the affluent coastal city of Montecito, California.
"Schofield stated that he heard that Harry is both satisfied with his new lifestyle and homesick. He added that Harry's feelings may vary depending on the day, and it's possible that he could miss his old home. Schofield also mentioned that Meghan has likely allowed Harry to try to establish an additional residence in the UK if that will make him happy, but she may not be involved in the process or want to visit."
Harry won't make any drastic or financial moves until he settles his security issues, as Schofield pointed out.
After Grant Harrold, King Charles' former butler, revealed to the New York Post that Harry had been looking at properties in his homeland, Schofield made his claims.
"Harrold stated to the outlet that he had been thinking about something he wanted and had probably made a decision about it. Initially, not having a home in the UK was a joint decision, but people's views and decisions can change over time."
Harrold added, "You only have one family, so suddenly he realized that."
If Harry buys a home in the UK, it's likely that Meghan will spend part of her year in the UK, according to Harrold. However, Schofield has a different opinion.
"Schofield claimed that Meghan feels rejected by the UK and is not interested in winning them over again. Instead, she is focused on winning over the elite in Hollywood with jam and dog treats."
In 2018, the British prince married Meghan, a former American actress, and she became the Duchess of Sussex.
In February, Harry, who has a strained relationship with his family, hurried to London for a brief visit after the king, 75, was diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer.
Since the prince left royal duties in 2020 and moved to California with his wife, Harry, 39, has had limited contact with his father. He has shared details of their strained relationship in TV interviews, a documentary, and his memoir, "Spare."
Harry, who recently traveled to London, shared on "Good Morning America" that he believed his father's ailment could strengthen his family's bond.
The monarch's "benign prostate enlargement" procedure at the London Clinic revealed a "separate issue of concern" in February, which was later announced as a cancer diagnosis.
The palace announced that a cancer diagnosis was found through subsequent tests.
In March, a video was shared in which Kate Middleton disclosed that she is also fighting a type of cancer. This revelation came after weeks of rumors about her health and whereabouts.
The Princess of Wales requested "time, space and privacy" during her cancer treatment, which was discovered after a "major" surgery.
On Friday, Nacho Figueras, Harry's pal, shared a photo of raspberry jam from Meghan's lifestyle label, American Riviera Orchard, on his Instagram Stories. He also mentioned that Meghan is planning to release dog biscuits, according to the New York Post.
Kate made her first public appearance at Trooping the Colour in London, despite her cancer diagnosis.
"Schofield stated that the family is not concerned about Harry buying property in the UK, as they are currently focused on healing and loving one another."
If Harry is considering a new home in the UK, he will have a lot of work to do.
The High Court ruling over the prince's security in the UK was upheld after he lost an initial appeal.
In 2020, the Duke of Sussex forfeited his taxpayer-funded personal protective security after relinquishing his status as a working member of the royal family. Later, in April, a High Court judge rejected his request to challenge an earlier ruling that upheld a government panel's decision to restrict his access to publicly funded security.
The legal battle commenced over four years ago, with the younger prince asserting that he and his family were at risk while visiting his homeland due to hostility towards him and his spouse. Harry emphasized that the couple had experienced relentless harassment from the U.K. media.
The lawyer argued that Harry had been treated fairly and was still given protection during some of his visits, citing a security detail that guarded him in June 2021 while he was pursued by photographers after attending an event with seriously ill children in west London.
Previously, Harry's lawyers stated that the prince was hesitant to bring the couple's children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to the UK due to safety concerns.
Harry contended that his private security team in the US lacks the necessary authority and access to UK intelligence data. Additionally, his legal team asserted that stripping him of his full royal security was unjustified because he was not given the opportunity to make informed representations prior to the decision.
The committee's decision was deemed reasonable by the British government, and privately funding police protection is not an option.
Helena Chard, a British broadcaster and photographer, expressed her skepticism to Planet Chronicle Digital about whether Prince Harry and Meghan would split their time between the US and UK.
"Prince Harry and Meghan are content in the US, but I think it would be wise for Harry to have a family home in the UK to repair relationships with his family."
"Prince Harry is still seeking an automatic right to armed security protection when in the UK, but if he and his family never visit the UK or only stay in random hotels, how can his appeal be taken seriously?"
The notion of Harry residing in the UK on a part-time basis isn't novel, as Schofield highlighted.
In the Netflix docuseries "Harry & Meghan," Harry revealed that he initially sought a "half in, half out" arrangement with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. This arrangement would have allowed them to have their own jobs while still supporting the late Queen Elizabeth II. However, Harry stated in the series that this goal was not negotiable.
"During the Sandringham Summit, Prince Harry originally proposed that he and Meghan intended to reside in Canada part-time and impose their unique lifestyle on the late Queen Elizabeth II. However, the queen was adamant that the former Prince Charles and Prince William be involved in the decision-making process."
"Schofield claimed that Charles and William, along with their teams, did not trust Harry and Meghan to handle the strategy properly. They believed that Harry and Meghan would pursue commercial careers, such as selling family secrets or even access to them for a large payment. The monarchy is sacred and cannot operate in that manner."
In June 2023, the palace's annual Sovereign Grant report disclosed that the couple had officially left Frogmore Cottage, where they had resided after their royal departure.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex requested to vacate their royal abode, Frogmore Cottage, so that Prince Andrew could move in. Originally, Frogmore Cottage, located on the grounds of Windsor Castle in London, was intended to be the couple's primary residence before they renounced their royal duties and relocated to Southern California.
During their time as working royals, the couple resided in Frogmore Cottage, which they renovated for $3.2 million. They repaid the full amount shortly after finalizing their Netflix deal in 2020.
When they departed from Britain, the couple declared that Frogmore Cottage would continue to serve as their base when they returned to the UK.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
