Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi reportedly leave US after Trump election win.
In August, DeGeneres' Montecito home was sold.
Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi are reportedly saying goodbye to the United States after President-elect Donald Trump's election victory earlier this month.
The comedian, known for her real estate investments, has reportedly settled in the Cotswolds in England, according to a source close to the TV personality. She and de Rossi had previously listed their multi-million dollar home in Montecito, California, with Riskin Partners.
Planet Chronicle Digital confirmed that their home was sold in August.
The couple's decision to leave their show was motivated by Trump's re-election, according to a source close to DeGeneres. In September, DeGeneres publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris by reposting Taylor Swift's Instagram endorsement. She added a comment, "This childless cat lady couldn’t agree more," in a direct dig at Vice President-elect JD Vance.
In her Netflix standup special "For Your Approval," DeGeneres announced that she had been "kicked out of show business." Following reports of a toxic workplace environment on her talk show in 2020, Warner Bros. conducted an internal investigation. Despite her apology, the damage had already been done.
Planet Chronicle Digital did not receive an immediate response from representatives for DeGeneres and Rossi.
In 2023, Cher revealed to The Guardian that she almost suffered from an ulcer when Trump nearly regained power. She stated that if he were to win again, she would consider leaving the country. This move by DeGeneres follows the empty threats made by other A-listers, including Cher, Sharon Stone, and Barbra Streisand.
Stone, who earlier this summer expressed interest in moving to Europe, said in July that she was considering a house in Italy. She added that she believed it was an intelligent construct to do so, given the current political climate in the United States. Stone also commented on the divisive nature of the 2020 presidential race, stating that it was the first time she had seen anyone running for office on a platform of hate and oppression.
In November 2023, Streisand stated that she wouldn't be able to cope with a Trump presidency. "I will relocate. I can't remain in this country if he gets elected," she declared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, mentioning England as a possible destination.
Eva Longoria expressed her "anxiety" for Americans under a Trump regime weeks ago in an interview with Marie Claire. She stated that she believes their fight continues and that the country is a "scary place." If Trump keeps his promises, it will only become more terrifying, she added.
