Drea de Matteo, known for her role in Sopranos, reveals she never played the Hollywood celebrity "game," making it easy for her to walk away.
The actress, who has won an Emmy Award and is 52 years old, stated that despite her success in the industry, it doesn't feel like her world.
Drea de Matteo prefers to avoid the glamour of red carpets and mingling with other celebrities.
The actress, 52, stated to Planet Chronicle Digital that leaving the industry was not a significant issue for her since she never truly felt like she belonged in Hollywood.
"She clarified that she never experienced being canceled, kicked out of Hollywood, or shunned because she was never a part of the industry. She had only done a few acting parts on TV shows and had achieved some awards, but she was never a Hollywood player."
Adriana La Cerva, portrayed by De Matteo on "The Sopranos," stated that she has never participated in the celebrity game.
"I don't possess expensive handbags or stroll on red carpets. I don't socialize with famous individuals. It's not my realm, so leaving it is not a significant issue for me."
Drea de Matteo, known for her role in 'Sopranos,' claims she never participated in the "celebrity game."
Currently, Matteo is concentrating on her new jewelry collection, which is part of her ULTRAFREE clothing line, jokingly stating that the tombstones in her new Tombstone line have name plates on them "to remind you of who you are, simply check below."
She said that charms can also be added to them.
"A lot of people create nameplates, but ours have protection symbols," she explained. "You could add a cross or a gun to it."
"I don't own fancy purses and s--- like that or walk red carpets. I don't mingle with famous people. I don't, it's just not my world. So, for me to walk away from it, not a big deal." — Drea de Matteo
Her Protection collection, she explained, has gun pendants.
"The reason why that's amusing now is that I always carried a small revolver with a pearl handle," she stated. "People would frequently gift me these guns, A, because my ex's name was Shooter, and B, because I was a character on 'The Sopranos' and I often wore a bullet dangling from my earring."
She continued, "For me, it's more than just a symbol. It could be a cross, Star of David, or Hamsa. Any religious symbol can be used. But the guns are fun, just like Guns N Roses, Velvet Revolver, and Sex Pistols. However, nowadays, people are worried. I say, 'Why don't you protect your mind, soul, integrity, and independence instead of clutching your pearls?'"
While reflecting on "The Sopranos," De Matteo recalled a funeral scene where she and Michael Imperioli were supposed to be under the influence, so the two actors chose to portray their characters accurately.
"We were supposed to be really stoned on the couch, so we smoked weed, and it was the biggest mistake we ever made," she admitted. "We were not – we didn't even know how to be in the room around all these actors, all these extras. We were freaking out."
The makeup team was "applying red dye to our eyes like eyeliner, and we were like, 'We're so high, we don't need this nonsense.'"

She believed that some individuals were aware they were under the influence, "but we were supposed to be drunk and behaving completely foolishly."
De Matteo expressed her frustration with the portrayal of James Gandolfini in the "Wise Guy" documentary, in which she participated.
The filmmakers had the chance to write a love song for Gandolfini, the hero of the network, who did more amazing things than the mistakes they needed to emphasize.
"She continued, "He was a hard worker. Did he blow off some steam? Sure, he did. We all know how to do that. But to turn that into a story about 'The Sopranos' and make him look like Tony Soprano, this man was nothing like Tony Soprano. Nothing. And, because he was such a great actor, he lived in that headspace."
At its peak, "The Sopranos" attracted 13.2 million viewers and received 21 Emmy Awards, including three for Gandolfini as outstanding lead actor in a drama series and one for de Matteo as outstanding supporting actress in a drama series.
