Dolly Parton shares the secret to her and her husband's 58-year marriage without arguments.
Bunnie Xo's podcast, 'Dumb Blonde,' featured a renowned country music artist as a guest.
Dolly Parton and her husband Carl Thomas Dean have been married for 58 years and have mastered the art of compromise and relationship maintenance.
In an interview on Bunnie Xo's "Dumb Blonde" podcast, the 78-year-old country music star shared details about her special connection with Dean and how they manage to avoid conflicts in their relationship.
"She told Jelly Roll's wife on the podcast that she and her partner are quite different - she's loud and he's quiet, but they make up for it with their humor. She believes that their long-lasting relationship is due to their love, respect, and ability to find humor in difficult situations. Whenever there's too much tension, either of them can find a joke to break the tension and keep things light."
"I'm glad we never fought back and forth because it can become a lifetime thing. I've seen it happen to many people, and I knew I wouldn't start it. I couldn't bear the thought of him saying something I couldn't handle because I'm very sensitive to myself and others."
Since 1966, the couple has been married. In 1966, Parton met Dean at a laundromat when she was 18, and he was 21.
Despite being Parton's biggest supporter, Dean has kept a low profile and avoided the limelight.
She informed Bunnie Xo that he loves music but has no interest in being part of it, and he made that clear from the beginning.
"In '67, I pleaded with him to attend the event with me as we had gotten married the previous year. It was the year I received my first BMI award for the song "Put it Off Until Tomorrow." Despite my persistence, he was hesitant and uncomfortable the entire evening."
As soon as they arrived home, Dean began removing items.
He stated, 'Look, I want you to do whatever you desire, and I wish you the best, but don't ever request me to attend another one of these cursed events because I won't.' And he never followed through with it.
She added, "We had that respect, and I respected it because I didn't know he would be that uneasy, but he doesn't even like going out to big dinners or anything like that."
Their different interests are what bring them closer together, said the "Jolene" crooner.
"He was a homebody, and that worked well for us," she said. "I don't know if anybody out there goes by astrology or pays attention to that. But he’s Cancer, and I'm Capricorn, and those are compatible signs. He loved to go places, if we were going to drive cross-country or if we had planned a thing. But, boy, he could never wait to get home."
""I'm a gypsy by nature and love to travel, but I think being around home has worked well for us," she said."
