Diddy lawsuit no surprise after cheating rumors and family elevator fight, Beyonce and Jay-Z show solidarity.
Allegations of rape against Jay-Z and Sean 'Diddy' Combs at the 2000 MTV VMAs party were made public.
Since their wedding in 2008, Jay-Z and Beyoncé have been the ultimate power couple, but their love has been tested since they officially became a couple.
The rapper, who has been labeled a "Renegade," made a statement Monday at the premiere of his wife's latest Disney film, "Mufasa: The Lion King," just hours after filing a petition to dismiss a rape lawsuit brought by an anonymous accuser who also accused his friend, Sean "Diddy" Combs, of the same crime.
Beyoncé, despite the accusations against her husband, Jay-Z, walked the red carpet with him at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Calif.
""The Carters are sticking together and will face this situation as a team," a source told Page Six."
The couple started dating at the beginning of the century, with her being 19 and him being 31, after they had known each other for over a year prior.
"In a 2013 interview with Oprah Winfrey, the "Drunk in Love" singer revealed that they had been friends for a year and a half before going on any date and had been talking on the phone for the same amount of time. According to the singer, having someone who is honest is crucial in a relationship."
Four years after their initial connection, Beyoncé and Jay-Z made their first red carpet appearance together at the 2004 MTV Video Music Awards in Miami. The couple later married in a secret wedding at his Manhattan penthouse in April 2008.
In a September profile for Vibe magazine, he confirmed their marriage and provided more insight into why he kept their union a secret.
"I don't have the right to confirm that," he said. "I don't believe it's necessary to share that information. It's a personal matter that should be kept private. You need to keep your personal life sacred to maintain your sanity in this business. I've shared too much of my life with the world, and I need something to hold onto. I think it's important to keep certain things private to maintain your mental health."
In 2012, the Carters welcomed their first child, daughter Blue Ivy.
The elevator incident at the Standard Hotel during the Met Gala two years ago involved a fight between Beyoncé's sister, Solange Knowles, and Jay-Z. Surveillance footage allegedly showed Solange kicking and hitting Jay-Z while Beyoncé stood by silently.
In a remix of "Flawless," Beyoncé appeared to address the elevator drama by singing, "I'll give you good karma, but we're not stopping, we're going up in this elevator, like a billion dollars."
In 2016, the Grammy-winning artist released her critically acclaimed album "Lemonade," which tackled cheating rumors and featured the opening lyrics of "Pray You Catch Me" as a direct address to the issue.
In June of the following year, the couple welcomed twins Rumi and Sir into the world. That year, Jay-Z also publicly addressed infidelity rumors.
"Most people walk away from divorce because they can't see themselves dealing with the pain on their partner's face and having to confront their own actions. According to him, the hardest part is seeing the pain on someone's face that you caused and then having to deal with yourself."
In a 2018 interview with David Letterman for his Netflix show, "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction," Jay-Z stated that he has a supportive wife who understands his past mistakes and has worked through them together through therapy. As a result, they have grown and improved as a couple, and Jay-Z is proud of the husband and father he has become.
On Sunday, Jay-Z was implicated in a sexual assault lawsuit against Sean "Diddy" Combs, and subsequently filed a motion to dismiss the case the next day. According to court documents, Jay-Z was accused of raping a minor along with Diddy at an MTV VMAs after-party in 2000.
The lawsuit, originally filed in October, was refiled in New York by an anonymous accuser who claimed Jay-Z "raped" her while Combs and "Celebrity B" watched. In the original lawsuit, Combs was accused of raping a minor while "Celebrity A" and "Celebrity B" watched. Carter was later identified as "Celebrity A" in the refiled lawsuit.
Jay-Z, through his Roc Nation banner, denied the allegations and stated that Tony Buzbee's attempt to coerce him into settling only made him want to expose him for the fraud he is. As a result, Jay-Z stated that he will not give him even one red penny.
Buzbee wrote that he had previously denied that Jay Z was the one who sued him and his firm. He stated that Jay Z had filed his case under a pseudonym. However, what Buzbee failed to mention in his recent statement was that his firm had sent Jay Z's lawyer a demand letter on behalf of an alleged victim, and the victim had never demanded any money from him.
"She opted for a private mediation instead of a public lawsuit. Although I wrote the letter on her behalf, Mr. Carter has not only sued me but also tried to intimidate and harass me and this plaintiff. His behavior has had the opposite effect. She is now more confident. I am proud of her determination."
