Dick Van Dyke narrowly escapes the Malibu wildfire by crawling to his car, with the help of three neighbors who saved him.
On December 13th, the actress who portrayed Mary Poppins will turn 99 years old.
Malibu, California wildfires compelled Dick Van Dyke to evacuate his home.
On Dec. 13, the legendary actor, who is turning 99, revealed how he faced difficulties in escaping the wildfires that threatened his life and home.
Neighbors arrived to help Van Dyke as he tried to untangle his fire hose outside. He stated that he could see the wildfires burning fiercely over the hills from his house.
"Van Dyke told Today that he was attempting to reach his car but couldn't due to exhaustion, causing him to be unable to stand up."
The voice in the background of the video stated that Van Dyke was "drenched" when he attempted to flee.
"I was saved from a fire by three neighbors who carried me out and put it out."
Van Dyke and his family were seen leaving their home with their pets, as security cameras captured the evacuation.
Van Dyke's update follows his Facebook post about safely evacuating.
""We safely evacuated with our animals except for Bobo who escaped as we were leaving. We're praying for his safety and the survival of our community in Serra Retreat amidst these terrible fires," he wrote."
On social media, well wishes and prayers were sent by fans to the "Mary Poppins" star.
Recently, Van Dyke's home was showcased in a music video for Coldplay's new song, "All My Love," which honored the actor's 50-year career in Hollywood. The video featured Van Dyke with his family, moments of contemplation, and footage of his numerous awards and achievements.
In the video, the actor stated that he was "not afraid" of death as he reflected on his life.
"Van Dyke stated in the video that he is aware of the possibility of his death but is not concerned about it because he is not afraid of it. He also expressed his belief, despite being intellectually opposed to it, that he will be okay."
The Franklin Fire, which started around 10:50 p.m. Monday north of Pepperdine University, has expanded to more than 2,800 acres.
According to a sheriff who spoke at a press conference on Tuesday, over 18,000 individuals and 8,100 structures have been impacted, with 2,000 of those structures under evacuation orders. The cause of the wildfire is currently being investigated by LA County Fire and Sheriff's arson teams.
In addition to Van Dyke, other celebrities residing in the area have evacuated, including actress Mira Sorvino and singers Cher and Barbra Streisand.
