'Derek Hough, a professional dancer on 'DWTS,' describes his wife's recovery from emergency skull surgery as "nothing short of a miracle."'
The Symphony of Dance Tour featuring Derek Hough will resume on April 16 in Tampa, Florida.
"Derek Hough, a professional dancer on "Dancing with the Stars," is proud of his "miracle wife.""
In December, Hayley Erbert underwent an emergency skull surgery, but she has since made a miraculous recovery and is back in the dance studio.
Erbert's medical professionals searched for severe, permanent damage after her craniectomy and cranioplasty, but they couldn't find anything.
"Honestly, it's nothing short of a miracle," he said. "Both Hayley and I are grateful to the medical professionals and everyone who was so skilled and did their best. They did an incredible job."
He thanked his fans for their "love and support" during his "scary" health journey with his wife, who he married in August 2023.
According to Hough, we experienced a unique energy that was beautiful and special, whether hypothetically or metaphorically, as everyone around us radiated it.
Hough's biggest struggle in Erbert's health journey was recalling the frightening moments when everything was uncertain.
He stated that every day brings a victory, a triumph, and a step forward. However, he believes that the most challenging aspect is reexperiencing some of those moments. They unexpectedly resurface in one's mind, making them extremely difficult to handle.
In December, Erbert was hospitalized after becoming "disoriented" following a performance. She was later diagnosed with a cranial hematoma resulting from a burst blood vessel and underwent an emergency craniectomy.
A hematoma is a buildup of blood in the skull, typically resulting from a burst blood vessel in the brain, as stated by the Mayo Clinic.
Erbert's medical scare caused the Hough's Symphony of Dance Tour to be postponed. The show will resume on April 16 in Tampa, Florida.
According to Hough, the audience can anticipate a thrilling, lively just dance performance that showcases both athleticism and artistry. The music will be diverse, featuring a range of genres such as big band, rock 'n' roll, old Hollywood, and contemporary.
"Even if you're not a fan of dance, you'll still enjoy the show because of the music and energy in the room. It's a unique experience."
Hough mentioned the possibility of his wife joining him on stage during his summer tour.
"She's doing amazing," he said of Erbert's recovery.
Recently, Erbert posted a video of dancing with Hough on Instagram, despite being in recovery.
"Being able to dance on stage with my love after a chaotic four months has been a blessing and surprise," she wrote in her caption. "My healing journey has been nothing short of miraculous, and dancing again is rekindling my spirit and accelerating my recovery."
Across the country, Hough will dance in various cities before his Symphony of Dance Tour concludes May 19 in San Diego.
