Not everyone is showing compassion towards reality stars Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, who lost their home in the California fires, despite their fame from appearing on MTV's "The Hills."

The couple recounted their shock of loss while sitting down with "Good Morning America."

Montag said through tears, "Spencer was like, 'Take whatever you want to keep,' and I was like, 'How do you choose?' My brain stopped working because I was so overwhelmed with so many things you can't replace. So I grabbed my kids' teddy bears."

Our kids' room is magical, and we do story time every night. It's such a routine that we feel so much love in there. One night, our son's bed started burning in the shape of a heart. The fire just started as a heart, and I was like, "This is out of body, insane."

The Pacific Palisades, where devastating fires broke out on Jan 7, leveling homes and businesses, is where their home was located. Both the Palisades Fire and the nearby Eaton Fire remain active, according to Cal Fire.

The couple stated that their home and belongings were not covered by insurance, and they were among the many Southern California residents who were removed from their policy.

Montag stated that they were "house poor," meaning they had a house but struggled financially with everything else. They were focused on making every dollar count.

The stars have received support from fans, with Montag's debut album, released in 2010, reaching the No. 1 spot for both song and album on iTunes this week.

"For us, the fan support has been a beacon of light in a dark time, and it has brought about significant change," Montag stated.

Despite the kindness shown in the comments on the couple's interview, not everyone was as kind.

"Stop crying and purchase another house," a commenter suggested on "Good Morning America's" Instagram account.

"Another person commented that it was 'shameless promotion during the worst imaginable tragedy,' and they would never change their mind, saying 'sorry not sorry.'"

Numerous individuals expressed this viewpoint, stating, "This is truly disheartening, but not only celebrities have lost everything. It's time for interviews to focus on regular people!"

Despite their past as reality TV "villains" on "The Hills," others still had compassion for the stars, won over by their honesty.

"Now they are so different. Humble & relatable!" one person remarked.

Being Spencer and Heidi's biggest fan was not on the 2025 BINGO card, but here we are.

The parents of two boys, Gunnar, 7, and Ryker, 2, have posted pictures and videos of their destroyed house on social media.

Losing a place that is loved and lived in, which serves as a refuge from the world, is a challenging concept to cope with daily, as Montag expressed while tearing up.

"Pratt stated, "I feel like a phantom because I don't have any photos prior to the iPhone's existence, and all of the trinkets on my shelves have vanished.""
