Cheryl Burke, a former contestant on 'Dancing with the Stars,' reveals that romantic connections on the show are common, but full-blown relationships are uncommon.

Cheryl Burke, a "Dancing With The Stars" alum, spoke openly about romantic relationships between the show's professional dancers and celebrity contestants.
The 40-year-old ex-"DWTS" pro has been a part of the hit ABC dance competition show for 26 seasons from 2006 to 2022. After the series' season 33 premiere, Burke, who hosts the "DWTS" podcast "Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans" for iHeartRadio, discussed the long-term potential of celebrity contestants' relationships with their pro partners with Planet Chronicle Digital.
"Yes, she said, are there hookups? Yes, she said. Rarely, she said, are there full-blown relationships. But, she said, it does happen, as we've seen."
Robert Herjavec, a "Shark Tank" star and his former "DWTS" pro partner Kym Johnson-Herjavec, who tied the knot in 2016 after competing on season 20 of "DWTS." Additionally, pro Britt Stewart's romance with her partner Daniel Durant, who they competed with on season 31 in 2022, resulted in an engagement announcement on Christmas Day in 2023.
Definitely," Burke stated. "However, everyone in this stage of the competition is currently on a high.
"As every honeymoon phase goes, everything is perfect, right? Let's discuss when you begin dancing twice a week and how tired you become of your partner. We'll see how it unfolds."
Cheryl Burke, a former contestant on 'DWTS,' reveals that while hookups may occur, full-blown relationships are not common on the show.
In an April episode of "The Amy & T.J. Podcast," Burke disclosed that she had romantic relationships with three of her celebrity partners while on "DWTS."
"Are there hookups? Yes. Are there full-blown relationships? Rarely. But it does happen, as we've seen." — Cheryl Burke
During the filming of "Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans," was there a lot of "sex happening off-screen"?
"Burke stated to hosts Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes, "Clearly, I mean, just look. In the rumba, there is a lot of dry humping. That's what happens. Dancing, particularly ballroom, is an intimate contact sport.""
It was difficult for Burke to create successful relationships outside of the show.
""Each other consumes you seven days a week," she stated."
"Moreover, we've observed their insecurities," Burke stated. "To excel on 'Dancing With the Stars,' you must be willing to be exposed," she emphasized. "You have to feel foolish. You have to appear foolish. You have to accept that."
The pro partners of celebrity contestants must be trusted by them, according to Robach.
"Trusting someone after only a few days is not typical, Burke pointed out."
Burke didn't reveal the names of two of her former partners with whom she had showmances, but she identified one as former NFL player Chad Ochocinco Johnson, who was paired with her during the show's 10th season in 2010.
Burke remembered that she attempted to maintain a relationship with one of her partners following the show's conclusion, but it was ultimately unsuccessful.
Burke stated that her romantic relationships on the show were driven by "lust" when asked if she had fallen in love with any of her partners.
"Is it not love, Burke asked? That feeling that arises in that instant, and then you wonder, 'How is this person real?'"
Gleb Savchenko and Brooks Nader have been the subject of romance rumors during Season 33 of Dancing with the Stars. However, Burke stated that the two had denied these rumors, stating that it was not his concern.
Sasha Farber, "The Bachelorette" alum's pro partner, was seen as a potential real-life connection by Burke.
"I believe Sasha and Jenn's relationship is more than just a casual affair; it has the potential to develop into something serious."
Cheryl Burke, a former 'DWTS' pro, reacts to Artem Chigvintsev's domestic violence arrest and Nikki Bella's divorce.
In the weeks leading up to season 33 of "DWTS," a shocking scandal erupted when pro dancer Artem Chigvintsev was arrested on August 29 for domestic violence, just three days after celebrating his third wedding anniversary with his wife Nikki Bella.
In 2017, on season 25 of "DWTS," the former professional wrestler and Chigvintsev first met. They started dating in 2018 and got married in August 2022. The couple has a son named Matteo, who is 4 years old.
Chigvintsev was served with divorce papers on Sept. 11, as Bella cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split.
Chigvintsev, who is not participating in season 33, hasn't been recently spoken to by Burke, as she shared with Planet Chronicle Digital.
She explained that she sometimes finds it uncomfortable to discuss her former co-stars on her podcast, including her reaction upon first hearing the news about Chigvintsev's arrest.
"I was recording our 'Headlines and Hot Topics' series when all of this happened. As a podcaster, especially with a specific niche like 'Dancing with the Stars,' it's getting tricky for me now," she said.

Burke stated, "I'll never forget the conversation where my boss proposed adding a 'Headlines and Hot Topics' series, and I expressed my discomfort with the idea, stating that it was odd and put me in an awkward position as I frequently discuss my friends and their activities with them."
"As I was reporting, it was rolling out for Artem as well."
"Despite being taken aback by the situation, I continue to send love, particularly to the little boy. Unfortunately, this unfortunate circumstance has brought attention to it, and now everyone has their own opinions. Honestly, I don't have any other thoughts other than wishing them well."
In season 33 of "DWTS," a convicted felon and con artist, Anna Delvey, is competing alongside pro Ezra Sosa, sparking another controversy.
Anna Sorokin, also known as Delvey, deceived a group of financial institutions and New York's elite into thinking she had a fortune abroad.
In 2019, she was found guilty of four counts of theft of services, three counts of grand larceny, and one count of attempted grand larceny. After spending 17 months in federal prison, Delvey was released in October 2022 and has been under house arrest ever since.
Delvey, who is fighting deportation back to her home country of Germany, revealed that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement granted her permission to compete on "DWTS."
At the show's premiere, Delvey wore a bedazzled ankle monitor as she and her partner Sosa were the last couple to walk on stage.
Burke stated to Planet Chronicle Digital that she was not fond of the ending of the premiere episode, which featured Delvey's performance.
She remarked, "That brought everyone from a high position to an awkward one."
Cheryl Burke, a former contestant on 'DWTS,' shares her thoughts on the controversial casting of Anna Delvey.
Burke remarked that since Delvey has been cast in the show, it's now a done deal.
"She was cast, and we must embrace her. However, she must also embrace this process. What's killing me is that I want to give her a chance. I listened to her full interview with Alex Cooper on 'Call Her Daddy.' Despite having every opportunity, she never showed vulnerability or took responsibility for her actions."
Burke stated, "Although none of that was said, I felt a wall up with her. Nevertheless, I wanted to give her another chance last night."
"I wanted Val [Chmerkovskiy] to work with her because I needed a seasoned pro to help her open up emotionally," she said. "We are human, after all. I don't think she's a robot. So, I just want to see some sort of emotion from her, whether it's anger, rage, sadness, or happiness. I want to see her truly feel something, not just the same expression all the time. The insecurity has got to cause some sort of emotion behind closed doors for her at least."
In September 2023, Burke debuted "Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans" on iHeartRadio Podcasts. The weekly podcast features Burke and guests, including former "DWTS" pros and celebrity contestants, discussing their experiences on the show and previewing new seasons.
"If you enjoy "Dancing with the Stars," this podcast is perfect for you, according to Burke. He emphasized that the show not only has a significant impact on the dance community but also on its fans. Burke shared how fans become deeply invested in the show, making it more than just a dance competition."
She added, "Being able to discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly is important because life isn't always good. I may have upset some people, but that's just part of living. We all experience highs and lows, but overall, it's been a great journey. However, there are difficult times, and I'm just being honest. It's refreshing to be able to speak freely without censorship."
"Although I'm uncensored, I haven't encountered any issues yet."
