'Brutal fail' befalls 'Wheel of Fortune' contestant in bizarre bonus round.
Vanna White and Ryan Seacrest host 'Wheel of Fortune'.
Her "Wheel of Fortune" bonus round has garnered her a significant amount of attention.
Phoebe Huynh won the game on Friday and was able to compete in the bonus round for an additional prize. Her unique guesses and playful banter with host Ryan Seacrest sparked conversation among viewers.
She won $19,200 during the game and selected the "Food & Drink" category for the bonus puzzle. Seacrest instructed her to choose an envelope with her prize if she won the last round. She then picked her letters, choosing D, P, H, O, R, S, T, L, N, and E.
After White disclosed the letters, she was left with "ND" and "RT."
"Phoebe, you've had a great night so far. Seacrest told you to think about it and gave you ten seconds to solve it. Good luck!"
As she stared at the board, she seemed puzzled and kept guessing "Sun-dried grapes? Sun-dried... birds? Sun-dried... oh... cats? No?"
Seacrest said, "It's not a sun-dried bird. It's a candied fruit," after the buzzer went off, indicating she had run out of time.
She grumbled good-naturedly, "I don't eat candied fruit."
Laughing, Seacrest raised his hands and asked, "Do you consume sun-dried avian species?"
"No! I'm vegetarian!" she answered.
She was disappointed when Seacrest didn't give her the $75,000, but he laughed at her reaction and then revealed the prize envelope to show that she had won it if she had answered the puzzle correctly.
The interaction was met with laughter from the audience and equal amusement on social media among fans.
"I've never seen a crazier bonus round on Wheel of Fortune," one person wrote on the Reddit page, accompanied by a crying emoji. "The cherry on top was when the contestant said, 'I don't eat candied fruit!'"
What's the deal with sundried cats in the food and drink category? Has anyone ever guessed that before?
Another post stated that this lady accurately guessed 'sundried bird' on Wheel Of Fortune.
The "Wheel of Fortune" YouTube page conversation continued with a viewer describing the round as a "brutal fail."
"One person remarked, 'One of the worst solves,' while another exclaimed, 'HOW COULD SHE NOT GET IT?!'"
Sundried cats? That was a harsh comment. How did she manage to win? She must have been really lucky or her opponents were not very bright.
The puzzle didn't include "sun-dried" as it didn't fit in the number of boxes shown, and she had already received an S, so it couldn't have been part of the solution.
When performing live on stage, everything that usually works seamlessly disappears.
