The British royal family will be seeing plenty of green in 2025.

The Sovereign Grant will increase by more than $56 million in April, resulting in a total of $165 million.

The Sovereign Grant, which is the amount paid to the monarchy by the U.K.'s treasury, has been criticized as "scandalous" due to the pay increase, as the U.K. government faces challenges in finding funding for other budget items.

Buckingham Palace did not immediately respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.

According to royal expert Ian Pelham Turner, while it's accepted that the funding will be used to repair Buckingham Palace, the royal family's collectively potential private wealth could cover the cost.

"The royal family is facing another blow with the loss of winter fuel allowance for many, forcing them to choose between eating or heating their homes during the winter."

Last year, Buckingham Palace announced an increase, with People magazine highlighting that much of the money would go towards the ongoing renovations to the property, which are expected to be completed in 2027.

The palace did not disclose the amount of money allocated for the renovations.

According to Town & Country, Graham Smith, CEO of Republic, stated that the money being used is public. The organization's website indicates that it advocates for the end of the monarchy.

"Smith stated that the government's inability to properly fund schools, hospitals, and police is scandalous, as the money being spent on the stock market should be going down instead of up."

Hilary Fordwich, a British royal expert, emphasized to Planet Chronicle Digital that the pay raise does not apply to King Charles III.

She clarified that it does not fund all the working offices in Buckingham Palace and its staff.

"State banquets, entertaining foreign heads of state, maintaining royal palaces for state purposes, running the royal household, including all staff required for diplomatic functions, and hosting garden parties open to the public are among the other expenses."

"King Charles III shared that other funds are donated towards their projects and charities for the public good, and nothing about this is personal."

After Charles and Prince William faced criticism in November, Pelham Turner stated that the pay increase does not reflect well on the royal family.

According to The Sunday Times and a TV program titled "The King, The Prince & Their Secret Millions," the king and his heir were quietly earning money through their royal estates, the Duchy of Lancaster and Duchy of Cornwall.

According to the investigation, private estates have been receiving millions of pounds from public bodies, including the National Health Service, state-funded schools, and the British Armed Forces, as reported by the New York Post.

The monarch owns the 44,748-acre Duchy of Lancaster estate in England and Wales.

A spokesperson for the Duchy of Lancaster revealed to Planet Chronicle Digital that they oversee a diverse portfolio of land and property holdings.

"The organization is self-funded and does not receive any public funds for its activities. It publishes an independently audited Annual Report and Accounts that is available on its website and complies with all relevant U.K. legislation and regulatory standards applicable to its business activities."

The Duchy of Cornwall, owned by William as the Prince of Wales, is a private estate of almost 130,000 acres in southwest England. A spokesperson emphasized its private status to Planet Chronicle Digital.

"We aim to restore the natural environment and generate positive social impact while maintaining a commercial imperative as a private estate, as stated by the spokesperson," said the spokesperson.

"In September 2022, Prince William was appointed Duke of Cornwall and has since pledged to undertake a comprehensive renovation of the estate. This includes a substantial financial commitment to reduce the estate's carbon footprint to zero by 2032, as well as providing specialized mental health services to tenants and collaborating with local organizations to address homelessness in Cornwall."

According to The Sunday Times, a five-month investigation uncovered that the duchies are generating millions of pounds through "charging government departments, councils, businesses, mining companies, and the general public via a series of commercial rents and feudal levies on land that was largely seized by medieval monarchs."

The arrangement of the royals being commercial landlords while benefiting from a special agreement exempting them from paying tax on their corporate profits was noted as problematic by People magazine.

The substantial increase in the Sovereign Grant is likely to spark more public outrage, particularly given the controversy surrounding the Duchy of Lancaster and Cornwall's ownership by Charles and William.

Queen Elizabeth II initiated renovations at Buckingham Palace, which were noted by royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams.

Since her accession to the throne in 1837, Buckingham Palace has been the official London residence of British monarchs. However, in March 2020, the queen relocated to Windsor Castle due to the coronavirus pandemic, making it her primary residence until then. People magazine reported this information.

"The renovation of Buckingham Palace was crucial because it was outdated and had not been updated in years, despite being the world-renowned headquarters of any institution other than the White House. It is a working palace with staff, and its ceremonies, such as the Changing of the Guard, draw tourists. Additionally, it serves as the processional avenue for the Trooping of Colour, state visits, and the opening of Parliament."

"Buckingham Palace, the headquarters of the monarchy, is undergoing a refurbishment that will continue until 2027. The cost of the monarchy is a bargain at £1.29 per person, and it is the world's most high-profile monarchy and Britain's most prestigious projection of soft power. It attracts vast media attention globally and numerous tourists."

According to People magazine, Charles, 76, is financing the renovation of his private rooms in Buckingham Palace, which will not be completed until 2027. A source previously revealed to The Sunday Times that the monarchy is "cognizant of the need to ensure that public funds are not used for personal decorations."

Charles is primarily located at Clarence House, just a "short walk" away from Buckingham Palace.

The palace website states that the building receives approximately 100,000 guests and 15 million tourists annually. However, its electrical, plumbing, and heating systems have not been updated since the 1950s.

To prevent long-term damage to the building and its contents, the building's infrastructure requires a complete overhaul. The most cost-effective way to replace these essential services and ensure the Palace is fit for purpose for the next 50 years is to undertake a phased program of works over ten years.

"The palace will continue to be occupied and fully operational while the program brings about long-term financial and environmental benefits, as well as enhancements to visitor access."
