Brande Roderick, star of Baywatch, shares her biggest 'misconception' about getting the lead role on the hit show.
The actress, who is 50 years old, is a part of the new docuseries titled 'After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun.' This series delves into the cultural significance of the lifeguarding show during the 1990s and early 2000s.
Brande Roderick considers her time on "Baywatch" to be one of the best periods of her life.
Roderick recalls the last two seasons of the show being filmed in "enchanting" Hawaii and feeling like a "tight-knit group" with the rest of the cast.
"Roderick shared with Planet Chronicle Digital that they were on an island with only a few people they knew. Every day, it felt like a family or friend gathering, with activities like swimming and playing with Aquaman and Jason Momoa. It couldn't get any better, he said."
The new Hulu documentary, "After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun," will unveil the private struggles the cast faced while portraying the lifeguards in the series, despite the fun and sunny vibe.
Roderick stated that individuals who observe celebrities and the "Baywatch" lifestyle may assume that everyone's life is perfect. However, he believes that people will discover that their lives are not or were not perfect, and that there are struggles that they went through, which the world may not have been aware of.
"I believe that the upcoming show will shed light on people's experiences during the '90s and early 2000s, as they will be vulnerable and open about their personal stories."
She stated that she and other "Baywatch" cast members consistently experienced pressure to embody the ideal "Baywatch babe."
"Even a misconception I had when I booked ‘Baywatch,’ you know, I booked the lead role, right? I'm like, this is it." — Brande Roderick
"The struggle to maintain the image of being the fit, perfect Baywatch babe is a common topic among cast members, both male and female, as they face increased scrutiny and pressure to maintain their physique as they age."
Roderick stated that her biggest misconception about "Baywatch" was that it would establish her career trajectory.
When I booked the lead role in "Baywatch," I believed I had made it and would never have to audition again. However, the show's cancellation left me jobless, and I realized that the business doesn't work that way.
"Despite achieving success, one must continue to work hard and persevere. People may believe that success comes easily, but it requires consistent effort."
Broderick recently debuted as a director with the horror film "Wineville," which she produced and starred in, stating that it was a challenging experience.
"She recounted the challenges of wearing all the hats and putting out fires in the 1970s period piece. "Constantly trying to meet the needs of everyone, the crew, actors, and being prepared for scenes while also being behind the camera was a lot," she said. Despite the difficulties, she achieved her dream of doing it and found it exciting."
The film was made by the crew near the end of the pandemic, which resulted in numerous hoops and obstacles. On the second day of shooting, the wardrobe gal contracted COVID.
"She had to leave and we had to find a last-minute replacement who could understand our work, which was a '70s piece, so we weren't wearing normal clothes. This was set in 1978, and finding all the cars from that era presented challenges. As a producer, putting out fires and directing while memorizing lines was the most difficult part."
Over the years, the actress has remained in contact with some of her "Baywatch" co-stars, particularly Carmen Electra, with whom she claims to meet frequently.
Broderick stated that she is among the individuals he has kept in touch with the most.
She saw Momoa, whom she considers like a "little brother," at an autograph signing about a year and a half ago.
"Jason is like a little brother to me, and he's a really sweet, wonderful person with a huge heart. He still has that sweet little boyish personality, even though he's a lot bigger now. I saw him recently, and it was really sweet to see him. My kid went with us, and he got to hang out with and meet Aquaman, which was pretty cool."
Broderick stated that he has lost contact with his former co-star Pamela Anderson, whom he last saw during the filming of "Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding" in 2003.
The "Starsky & Hutch" actress expressed her support for the upcoming FOX reboot of the show.
"I've already spoken to Michael Berk about the project," she stated. "I told him I was on board and ready to travel to Australia for some fun. Absolutely, I'm thrilled about this opportunity and eager to be involved."
