Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie finalize divorce agreement following an 8-year court battle.
After Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, Pitt and she officially ended their marriage on Monday.
After eight years of a contentious and publicized legal battle, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have reached a settlement in their divorce.
On Monday, Jolie and Pitt officially ended their marriage, as confirmed by their lawyers, James Simon and Robert Shmerling.
"Eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt, and since then, she has been focused on finding peace and healing for their family. This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over."
A source close to the matter informed Planet Chronicle Digital that she has been making an effort to remain positive after a difficult period, and she does not speak negatively about him, whether publicly or privately.
"The insider stated that the kids have grown up witnessing how some individuals possess significant power and privilege, which makes their voices insignificant. Their suffering is disregarded, and they urge the woman to speak up for herself and defend herself against injustice. However, she advises them to concentrate on changing laws rather than sharing their stories publicly."
A representative for Pitt declined to comment on the settlement.
Jolie and Pitt's romance became public after they met on the set of "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" in 2004, and they were dubbed "Brangelina" by the tabloids.
In August 2014, the ex-pair got married at their French vineyard, Château Miraval.
The family consists of two parents and three sons, Maddox, Pax, and Knox, and three daughters, Zahara, Shiloh, and Vivienne.
In 2016, the actress filed for divorce, accusing Pitt of physically abusing her and their children during a private jet altercation. Pitt denied the allegations, and no charges were filed against him after the FBI conducted an investigation in 2016.
In 2019, a judge declared Jolie and Pitt divorced and single, but the division of assets and child custody still required resolution.
The private judge that the two had hired to handle their case reached a decision that included equal custody of their children, but Jolie filed to have him removed from the case over an unreported conflict of interest. The appeals court agreed, removing the judge and vacating his decision, forcing the former couple to start the process over.
Four of their children grew up during the lengthy divorce, eliminating the need for a custody agreement for them. Only 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne remain as minors. In June, Shiloh, then known as Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, successfully petitioned to remove Pitt's name from her surname.
Pitt and Jolie have been engaged in a heated legal dispute over Château Miraval. A judge has ruled that Pitt's claims against Jolie, which he filed in 2022, can proceed to trial. Pitt alleges that Jolie violated their contract when she sold her stake in the winery to the Stoli Group without his knowledge or consent.
According to Planet Chronicle Digital, the judge ruled that Pitt and Jolie had an implied contract and a verbal agreement, and there was a written agreement regarding shares in the holding company.
Jolie was requested by Pitt to reverse the sale of her Miraval stake to Yuri Shefler in order to resolve the matter outside of court.
In 2008, the former couple acquired a controlling stake in Château Miraval and spent time there together throughout their relationship. Jolie attempted to sell her company, Nouvel, to Tenute Del Mondo, a subsidiary of the Stoli Group, in 2021, effectively transferring her 50% ownership interest in Miraval. However, Pitt has challenged this sale, claiming it violated their contract.
Pitt has been accused of orchestrating a "vindictive campaign" to "loot" Jolie's profitable business since she first filed for divorce.
The Associated Press reports that the divorce agreement does not impact the ongoing winery lawsuit between the two celebrities.
Pitt has been dating jewelry designer Ines de Ramon since his split from Jolie. Their relationship was confirmed in November 2022, and they have been attending events together in recent months.
At the Venice Film Festival, the couple made their debut on the red carpet in September.
In October, a source told People magazine that Jolie is currently single.
At present, Angelina is concentrating on her family and not involved in any romantic relationships, according to a source.
