Beyonce is named the greatest pop star of the 21st century, infuriating Taylor Swift fans.
Billboard ranked Swift at number two.
Not all Taylor Swift fans are happy with Billboard's list of the greatest pop stars of the century.
Beyoncé was named the greatest pop star of the 21st century by Billboard, leaving many Swifties baffled as to how she could surpass Taylor Swift, who came in second place.
"I believe that Beyonce should not be ranked second on the Billboard charts, and Taylor Swift should be number one instead, as she outperformed Beyonce in every aspect."
"No other artist has ever occupied all ten top spots on the top 100, not just once, but twice! Taylor Swift should have been the #1 artist. There's no comparison," another fan added. "THIS IS A JOKE RIGHT? Taylor is the music industry! No artist has ever filled the top 10 spots on the top 100 and Taylor has done it twice!!!!" an additional comment read.
Beyoncé's impact has been greater over a longer period than Swift's, according to some commentators who defended her placement on the list.
Billboard, you got it right. Anyone who wants to call out sales needs to research the term 'impact'. A true legend is someone who inspires other legends to push boundaries and shape culture. UNIQUE, one user defended Beyoncé.
Beyonce has been number one since 1997, while Taylor's first song was in 2006. I'm surprised Taylor is even on the list because she's been doing well for the past three years.
In 2023, both Beyoncé and Swift embarked on major tours, with Beyoncé's Renaissance tour starting in May and Swift's The Eras Tour beginning in March. Beyoncé's tour grossed $579 million, making it one of the highest-grossing tours ever, according to Forbes.
Destiny's Child, which included Beyoncé, gained popularity in the '90s. After leaving the group in 2005, Beyoncé launched a successful solo career, releasing eight albums, including "Dangerously In Love," "Lemonade," and "Cowboy Carter."
Swift's tour, which concludes on Sunday with her final show in Vancouver, Canada, has broken numerous records, including being the first tour to earn over a billion dollars and holding the title of the highest-grossing tour of all time, according to Guinness World Records.
Since her debut as a country artist with the release of "Taylor Swift" in 2006, she has released numerous albums, including "Fearless," which won album of the year at the Grammy Awards in 2008, making her the youngest artist to achieve this feat. In 2014, she switched to pop music with the release of "1989," and has since released six more pop albums, including "Midnights," "Reputation," and "Evermore."
The Billboard website recognized the impact and influence of Beyoncé over the past 25 years, despite Taylor Swift's popularity in terms of album sales, streams, and touring dominance.
