At eight years old, Cara Delevingne confesses to being under the influence: "Young age"
Almost two years sober, the former Victoria's Secret model has maintained her sobriety.
Cara Delevingne is opening up about her struggles.
The actress, who was once a model, has been sober for almost two years and shared her health journey in a new interview with the Sunday Times, including an admission that she got drunk at the age of 8.
The wedding in 2001 was the first time I met Delevingne, who was a bridesmaid while I was a guest.
""That day, I got drunk at the age of 8," she confessed."
Two years after her debut, Delevingne started modeling with a Vogue Italia photo shoot and soon began partying intensely.
Last year, Vogue reported that Delevingne had expressed her feelings about her childhood, stating, "I was content as a child, but looking back now, I realize it's not typical. As a teenager, my happiness plummeted, and I began to drink and party to escape reality. I grappled with huge questions about my purpose and identity as I struggled to make sense of my place in the world."
The "Suicide Squad" actress spoke to the Times, stating, "I believed that drugs and alcohol helped me manage my emotions, but they only made me more depressed. Now, I feel empowered and in control, no longer allowing external factors to control me."
Delevingne comes from a renowned London family, with her father, Charles, being a successful property developer and the grandson of socialite Angela Delevingne. One of her sisters, Poppy, is also an actress and model, while her mother, Pandora, was a socialite.
Pandora has also been open about her issues with addiction.
"As Delevingne stated, "The more I age, the more I realize how similar my mother and I are." She elaborated, "My mother has endured so much, yet she remains resilient. She's incredibly intelligent. There are both beautiful and sad aspects to her life, which makes the situation more complex.""
The model discussed the March fire that destroyed her Los Angeles home and how she would have reacted differently if she had not been sober.
""Although it was unfortunate, everyone was safe. If I had not been sober, I would still be struggling with the aftermath. However, I do not use it as a way to prolong my sadness," she stated."
At the time, Delevingne was in London performing in a stage production of "Cabaret." One person inside the home suffered from smoke inhalation during a fire.
Her cats were inside the house as well, but they were rescued.
