Angelina Jolie ends 2-year legal battle with FBI over 2016 Brad Pitt plane fight
Nearly eight years after their divorce, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are still embroiled in a legal battle over their French winery.
On Thursday, Angelina Jolie concluded her legal fight against the Department of Justice, having filed a request for additional details about the agency's probe into alleged assaults that took place between Jolie and ex-husband Brad Pitt during a 2016 transatlantic flight.
On Sept. 25, Jolie, 49, filed to dismiss the action with prejudice, with each party to bear its own fees and costs, according to documents obtained by Planet Chronicle Digital. The judge signed off on the order the following day.
In April 2022, six years after the FBI launched an investigation into an alleged 2016 altercation involving Pitt, Jolie, and their children on a private plane traveling from France to Los Angeles, the "Maria" actress filed a suit against the bureau.
Two months after the investigation closed without charges against Pitt, she filed for divorce.
Jolie, under the name "Jane Doe," filed a lawsuit and requested information about the investigation through the Freedom of Information Act in order to safeguard the children in the family law system.
According to documents, she argued that the withholding of information by the DOJ and FBI has evidence of harm, and the denial to produce the information continues to hinder her efforts to obtain necessary ongoing care and medical attention for her children, further harming the children in the family law system.
In 2016, Pitt was accused of choking one of his children, striking another in the face, grabbing Jolie by the head and shaking her, pouring beer and red wine on her and their six children during a fight.
"According to court documents, some children begged Pitt to stop, while others were scared and crying."
Jolie's representatives did not promptly respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's inquiry for comment.
Although the judge declared the former couple legally single in 2019, the "Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood" actor and Jolie haven't been able to resolve a few lingering legal issues.
Pitt and Jolie's children, Maddox, Pax, Zahara, and Shiloh, are all over 18.
Pitt and Jolie have been embroiled in a legal dispute over their shared ownership of the Château Miraval winery in France since 2008.
In 2008, the former couple acquired a controlling stake in Château Miraval and spent time there together throughout their relationship. Jolie attempted to sell her company, Nouvel, to Tenute Del Mondo, a subsidiary of the Stoli Group, in 2021, effectively transferring her 50% ownership interest in Miraval. However, Pitt has challenged this sale, claiming it violated their contract.
Pitt has been accused of orchestrating a "vindictive campaign" to "loot" Jolie's profitable business since she filed for divorce in 2016.
According to court documents previously obtained by Planet Chronicle Digital, Nouvel accused Pitt of "hijacking" Château Miraval and "wasting" the company's assets on unnecessary renovation projects, including spending $1 million on swimming pool renovations.
