Angelina Jolie and daughter Vivienne win Tony Award after dropping Brad Pitt's last name.
Both Angeline and Vivienne collaborated on the Tony Award-winning musical 'The Outsiders'.
Like mother, like daughter.
Angelina Jolie and her daughter Vivienne, 15, walked the red carpet of the Tony Awards in matching teal ensembles. They collaborated on the Broadway show "The Outsiders," which won four awards, including best musical.
Jolie donned a Versace velvet gown that flowed to the floor and was adorned with a matching shawl.
Vivienne chose a darker teal-colored suit with wide-legged trousers, an unbuttoned vest over a white shirt, and a bow tie, along with black Converse sneakers.
A new tattoo of a bird taking flight was visible on Jolie's chest.
Jolie received her first Tony award for her role in a musical, which was also her first time working as a producer's assistant.
Jolie did not accept the award onstage, but she introduced the cast's performance, stating, "S.E. Hinton wrote 'The Outsiders' in high school, and even after half a century, it remains relevant. The experience of being an outsider is universal, and it speaks to anyone who feels left out. To any young person or anyone feeling on the outside, you are not wrong to see what's unfair."
As the cast raises their voices, I hope it inspires many of you watching to value your own path.
The playbill for "The Outsiders" lists Vivienne Jolie without her father's last name, despite having the hyphenated last name Jolie-Pitt for both parents.
Shiloh, the big sister, recently turned 18 and opted for a more formal change by filing paperwork to drop the Pitt name.
At the time, a source close to the matter informed Planet Chronicle Digital that Shiloh hired her own lawyer and paid for it herself.
Since the divorce proceedings between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie began in 2016, Pitt's relationship with his children has been strained. Jolie cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for their split and requested sole custody of their six children.
In May 2021, a private judge decided that Pitt and Jolie would split custody of their children equally.
Zahara Marley Jolie was introduced as their other child when she joined the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. at Spelman College, as shared in a video by Essence.
Pitt and Jolie have six kids: Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh, Pax, Knox, and Vivienne.
Jolie revealed in a Deadline interview that the reason she produced the musical was due to her daughter, Vivienne.
"My daughter Viv is passionate about theater and appreciates all aspects of it. She has a keen sense of what resonates with her and what she connects to deeply. She saw 'The Outsiders' at La Jolla Playhouse five times and shared her thoughts with me. As a mother and a person, I watched the play, but I was also observing its impact on my daughter and what she was telling me about herself. Through this experience, I learned more about what was important to her and why it connected so deeply to her."
Producers contacted them after the show and asked for their feedback. Jolie saw it as a chance to bond with Vivienne, so they collaborated on taking notes.
As the show transitioned to Broadway, Jolie stated that "Vivienne has been present throughout the journey."
