An update on Jane's Addiction is released following an onstage altercation between frontman Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro.
The upcoming show of Jane's Addiction in Bridgeport, Connecticut has been canceled.
The rock band is giving an update after an onstage outburst where Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell punched guitarist Dave Navarro.
"The band issued an apology on Instagram for the events that occurred last night and announced the cancellation of tomorrow night's show in Bridgeport."
The rock band promised to provide refunds at the point of purchase but did not provide any further information about the confusing incident.
A video of Farrell angrily bumping into Navarro during their performance of "Ocean Size" at the Lender Pavilion in Boston on Friday night went viral on social media. In the video, Farrell screams at Navarro while Navarro tries to keep him away with his arm, creating a physical barrier between them.
Farrell punched Navarro before the crew could separate them. Despite putting up a fight, he was restrained and led offstage.
The venue went dark and the show abruptly ended.
Etty Lau, Farrell's wife, provided her perspective on the cause of the fight the morning after it occurred.
The tension and animosity between the band members had been palpable, but the magic that made the band so dynamic was still there. Suddenly, the tension boiled over and the band's dynamism was lit. Perry confronted Dave in a heated moment, body-checking him.
"Perry's frustration intensified each night as he felt the stage volume was excessively loud and his voice was being overwhelmed by the band. Despite suffering from tinnitus and a sore throat, he remained determined to perform. However, when the first-row audience began to complain and curse at him, stating that the band was playing too loudly and they couldn't hear him, Perry snapped."
Etty Lau, who is also a musician and actress, claims that the band began "Ocean Size" before Farrell was prepared and that her husband was unable to hear the instruments due to the boom and vibration, resulting in him screaming to be heard by the end of the song.
She wrote that bassist Eric Avery "won the fight."
"As Dave kept Perry at arm's length to de-escalate the situation, Dan rushed over to de-escalate as well by holding Perry back. Meanwhile, Eric walked up to Perry, upstage, in the dark, behind Dan, put Perry in a headlock and punched him in the stomach three times. Kevin, a crew member with long hair, pulled Eric away. Afterward, Eric nonchalantly walked off to the front of the stage to apologize to the audience for the show ending early."
Dave looked handsome and cool in the middle of a fight, while her husband was a crazed beast for the next half an hour, according to Lau.
"He couldn't control his emotions and eventually broke down in tears. Eric either didn't comprehend the concept of deescalation or seized the opportunity to take advantage of the situation and deliver some low blows to Perry. That's my personal account of what transpired. I suggest you watch the video for yourself," she concluded.
Despite the cancellation of Jane's Addiction's show in Connecticut tonight, there is no information on whether their Toronto show on Wednesday will also be canceled.
The band's representative did not promptly respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's inquiry for comment.
