An insider from the fashion industry claims that Meghan Markle's decision to leave Hollywood for Prince Harry was a "courageous choice."
'Tim Matheson, who starred in 'Animal House' and 'Virgin River,' directed an episode of 'Suits' and wrote a new memoir titled 'Damn Glad to Meet You.''
Before Meghan Markle became the Duchess of Sussex, Tim Matheson believed she possessed a unique "sparkle."
In 2011, the "Animal House" actor directed the former Hollywood actress on an episode of her legal drama "Suits." The 76-year-old has written a memoir about his career titled "Damn Glad to Meet You: My Seven Decades in the Hollywood Trenches."
Markle's engagement to Britain's Prince Harry in 2017 surprised everyone, including Matheson, who was informed about it by Planet Chronicle Digital.
"When I met her, she was engaged to someone else, which was odd, Matheson explained. As an actor, my first thought was that she would quit acting. Marrying into the royal family was a bold move, and I thought it was a miniseries."
In 2011, Markle, 43, was married to film producer Trevor Engelson. Her final appearance in "Suits" was in the season 7 finale, which aired less than a month before she and Harry, 40, tied the knot in 2018.
Markle was described as "lovely" by Matheson on set, and he believed she had a bright future in Hollywood.
"As a director, I had a cast of six or seven actors to work with. We went out to an early dinner together, which allowed me to get to know them better off the set. While the entire cast was great, there was something special about her. She had a sparkle in her eye that made her stand out."
"It was odd because she was engaged to somebody else [when I met her]… My first thought, being an actor, was, ‘She’s going to quit acting.’ It was a bold move on her part, especially marrying into the royal family. I just thought, ‘That’s a miniseries.’ I mean, come on!" — Tim Matheson
"Matheson stated, "I recall her being an exceptional actor. I never had to worry about a scene she was in because I knew she'd deliver a perfect performance. If I needed any adjustments, she'd quickly jump in and make them. Working with her was a pleasure, and the show was a blast.""
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's happily ever after in the U.K. was not destined to happen.
Since 2020, Harry has had a strained relationship with his family due to his and his wife's decision to step back as senior royals, citing unbearable intrusions and racist attitudes from the British press.
The father of two has detailed his rocky relationship with his family in TV interviews, a documentary, and his memoir. Additionally, the couple has aired grievances against the monarchy in interviews and their Netflix docuseries.
"Matheson found it refreshing that both the candid and honest nature of her experience were shared by her, stating that he believed everyone was curious about their transition to a more normal life outside the royal family."
"I'm not certain about the royal family's acceptance of her, but I believe they did a commendable job. They maintained composure and didn't reveal any backstage stories. Despite the challenges, I think they handled the situation with great skill."
Those who have worked with Markle have shared their experiences working with her since she left royal duties.
In 2023, "Suits" creator Aaron Korsh spoke to the Hollywood Reporter about the show's resurgence on Netflix. He revealed that the royals had given their input on what the future duchess could and couldn't say in the series.
Korsh stated that the royal family had some input on certain matters, although it was only a few things. He mentioned that it was frustrating because they wanted to do more but were unable to do so. Korsh specifically mentioned a particular line of dialogue that was problematic.
When discussing sensitive topics with my wife's family, they use the term "poppycock." If you wanted to discuss something with your husband that he didn't want to do, but you just wanted to talk about it without holding him to his words, you could say, "It's poppycock."
"In the episode, Mike and Rachel were planning to have a romantic relationship, and as a tribute to my in-laws, we planned to have her say, "My family would say poppycock." However, the royal family did not want her using the word "poppycock," as they did not want to put it in her mouth."
"According to Korsh, the reason for the change was to avoid people misinterpreting her saying "cock" as a vulgar term. Instead of using "poppycock," they opted for "bulls--t." However, Korsh was unhappy with the change because she had previously informed her in-laws that "poppycock" would be used in the show. There were only a few other minor changes made, but Korsh cannot recall them in detail."
At the moment, Buckingham Palace and Markle did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's inquiry for comment.
Korsh stated that he was unaware of how the family obtained the scripts, saying, "I have no knowledge of how they obtained them. I knew they were reading them because I received feedback, but I do not recall the specific process they used to acquire them."
He couldn't recall who delivered the bad news about the "poppycock" kibosh, but he knew it wasn't Markle.
"The person who explained it to me didn't like having to tell me any more than I liked hearing it. However, when they explained it in a way that made it about splicing potential, I had some sympathy because I wouldn't want someone doing that to her either. The thing is, I didn't think anyone would really do that, but also, I don't know. People are crazy."

Harry and Markle started dating in 2016, while she was still on the show. Korsh revealed the royal family's impact only because he thought Harry had already discussed it in his book, "Spare."
Harry wrote about his family's influence on Markle's career in his book, "Meg left 'Suits' after seven seasons, a challenging time for her as she was passionate about the show, character, cast, and crew, and her love for Canada."
"However, life on set had become unbearable. The show writers were exasperated because they frequently received advice from the palace communications team to alter lines of dialogue, her character's actions, and her behavior."
There have been rumors about what the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will do after leaving their royal duties, whether they will remain in or depart from Hollywood.
The former executive producer of "Suits" confessed that it would be difficult to persuade Markle to rejoin the show's cast.
Gene Klein told TV Line, "I would assume that's just not possible."
