Amy Adams declined a 'very dirty' SNL song that would be 'scarring' for young fans.
In March 2008, the 'Enchanted' star hosted the show.
Amy Adams showcased one of the initial principles of humor: Understand your viewers.
During "The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast," Seth Meyers, along with fellow "SNL" alums Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone, analyzed a song from a 2008 episode hosted by Adams.
During the discussion of the song, Samberg disclosed that they had initially conceived a different concept for that week's digital short, but Adams opted out.
He explained that the song was intended to be a duet with Amy Adams and was very explicit.
"Although it's not very nice to withhold the premise, it was essentially like two elderly people having a picnic together, one of us getting stung by a scorpion, and then me dying or something, with my final regret being that we didn't explore our sexuality more in our relationship. It became a powerful anthem about that."
We played the beginning of it for her and read a bunch of the lyrics, and she thought it was very funny. She was so nice as always. We love Amy. She’s a genius, and she was like, ‘That’s really funny. I can’t do that. Little girls are so obsessed with Enchanted right now. They will find this, and it will be scarring for them, and I just can’t mix that right now.'
The sketch "Hero Song," starring Samberg as a vigilante hero, was created by the team. In the sketch, he plays a character similar to Batman in "The Dark Knight." As the sketch progresses, Samberg's character stops Adams from being mugged, but is then beaten by the mugger.
"As soon as we filmed 'Hero Song,' a mother and her daughter appeared, and the expression on the little girl's face when she saw Amy Adams made me think, 'She was absolutely right,'" Samberg stated.

"It was informative for me as it was not something I had considered in our profession. I understand what you mean; it was like she had a duty and a responsibility to those children, and she took it very seriously. I was impressed by her dedication."
Planet Chronicle Digital did not receive an immediate response from representatives for Adams regarding the proposed sketch.
Adams went on to host the show again in 2014.
