America's marriage problems, according to Sarah Michelle Gellar, are a result of a "disposable" society.
Freddie Prinze Jr, who starred in 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer,' has been married to his co-star for 22 years.
The decline of long-lasting relationships, according to Sarah Michelle Gellar, is due to shifts in societal values.
In September, the 47-year-old actress and Freddie Prinze Jr., 48, who share two children, marked their 22nd wedding anniversary. During an interview with Planet Chronicle Digital, alongside her "Dexter: Original Sin" co-star Patrick Gibson, Gellar shared her insights on the keys to a lasting marriage.
According to the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" star, everything requires effort, whether it's a friendship, work relationship, or marriage.
""We live in a disposable society now, so putting in the work is necessary," she stated."
"Gellar stated, "When your phone breaks, you don't fix it; instead, you get a new one. I believe this mindset is prevalent in relationships as well.""
The actress joked, "Maybe separate bathrooms."
Sarah Michelle Gellar believes that America's declining marriage rates are due to a "disposable" culture.
Gellar and Prinze Jr. first crossed paths while filming "I Know What You Did Last Summer" in 1997 and started dating in 2000. They got engaged in 2001 and married in Mexico in 2002 when Gellar was 24 and Prinze was 26.
Before their wedding, Prince Jr. appeared on "The Howard Stern Show," where Stern placed a $1 million bet that their marriage wouldn't last.

Sarah Michelle Gellar, star of 'Dexter: Original Sin,' discusses how celebrity culture has evolved since the 90s.
"The radio host proposed a written bet to him, stating that in 10 years, he would be hunted down and told, "Howard, I owe you money.""
Gellar shared screenshots of the interview on her Instagram Story to commemorate their 20th wedding anniversary.
She wrote via Us Weekly, "I believe you owe us, @SternShow."
Gellar's post was shared by Prinze Jr. on his Instagram Story with the caption "She will not forget" and two laugh-crying emojis.
In a 2019 interview with Us Weekly, Gellar emphasized the importance of "communication" for their successful marriage.
"The most important thing, according to the New York native, is listening, and being present."
""We still make each other laugh and treat each other with respect," said Prinze Jr., who revealed that after their first kiss, he didn't go on another date."
"It was just Sarah," he gushed to the magazine.
The couple, who co-starred in "Scooby-Doo" and its sequel, welcomed their first child, daughter Charlotte Grace, in 2009 and their son, Rocky James, in 2012.
Gellar and Prinze Jr. gained fame in the 1990s and became major stars of the era. In an interview with Planet Chronicle Digital, Gellar discussed the differences between celebrity life in the '90s and today.
""The widespread use of social media and camera phones has led to increased anonymity, making storytelling easier for some people because they can hide their identity and actions," she said."
""Moving shows indoors when you have to keep secrets," Gellar added."
The actress is appearing in the new Showtime series "Dexter: Original Sin," which premiered on Dec. 13. This prequel series to the network's hit serial killer show "Dexter," starring Michael C. Hall, ran for eight seasons from 2006 to 2013.
In 1991 Miami, Dexter (Gibson) transforms from a student to a vengeful serial killer. Unable to control his bloodthirsty urges, he must find a way to harness his inner darkness.
"Harry, played by Christian Slater, guides his son Dexter in adopting a Code to eliminate people deemed undesirable by society without the involvement of law enforcement. This presents a challenge for young Dexter as he begins his forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department."
Tanya Martin, the CSI chief at the Miami Metro Police Department, is played by Gellar as Dexter's new boss. The show also features Hall as the narrator, along with Patrick Dempsey, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu, Reno Wilson, and James Martinez.
Sarah Michelle Gellar describes her role in 'Dexter: Original Sin' as a 'dream opportunity'.
Gellar, in an interview with Planet Chronicle Digital, expressed her enthusiasm about being part of the "Dexter" prequel series, revealing that she is a huge fan of the original show.
"Although I never got a chance to be a part of the original, I still loved it. In my mind, I thought, 'That's too bad. It would have been fun to be a part of that canon.'"
Being given the chance to be part of a show that you loved again becomes a dream opportunity.
Gibson shared with Planet Chronicle Digital that he thoroughly enjoyed portraying Dexter's journey and found it to be a highly enjoyable experience.
"Dexter is already well-developed in season one of the original, so playing someone at that stage in their life was challenging for me, as I was quite awkward at that time in my own life."
"Gibson remarked, "As a teenager, you're like one foot, and as an adult, you're like the other foot - adults don't take you seriously.""
Patrick Gibson, who portrays Dexter in 'Dexter: Original Sin,' discusses the biggest difficulties of portraying a serial killer character.
Gellar was not taken seriously by Tanya Martin, as he said with a laugh while gesturing to her.
The actress concurred, stating, "I don't mesh with the crowd."
"Gibson stated, "You're not a kid, and you're also going through a lot of firsts, including murdering people.""
"Hey, we all have firsts," Gellar said.
"Gibson remarked, "Your first time isn't always the best, and you never forget it.""
The actor, who is 29 years old, has previously starred in TV series such as "The Tudors," "The OA," and "Shadow and Bone," among others. During an interview with Planet Chronicle Digital, Gibson stated that playing a character that was already well-known to the audience presented several distinct challenges.
""Michael's performance was so captivating because it was a reflection of himself," he said."
Gibson stated, "Maintaining a balance between the two was crucial because simply doing an impression would be too cold, even for a psychopath."
"He remarked, "I think we're trained as actors to be empathetic on set. And you're working with some of the best actors ever.""
"Don't let situations affect you too much, as you are more calculated than you seem. That was a bit of a challenge."
The original series "Dexter: Original Sin" will be shown on Showtime every Friday until February 14th.
