After a five-year absence, Meghan Markle reemerges on social media.
In 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle relinquished their senior royal duties.
Meghan Markle welcomed thousands of fans and followers to her reactivated Instagram page as she ushered in the new year.
On January 1, the Duchess of Sussex gave her followers a rare look into her personal life with a brief video she shared on social media.
Since 2020, Markle, 43, has been inactive on the photo and video-sharing site, coinciding with her and Prince Harry's decision to step back from senior royal responsibilities.
On the first day of the new year, Markle shared a 30-second video.
Prince Harry captured a video of her wearing a long, white linen shirt and white pants while running down the beach near her home in Montecito, California, according to People magazine.
She giggled while running through the frame, drawing "2025" in the sand.
In a short time, the Duchess of Sussex gained over 400,000 followers on her Instagram account.
After their marriage, Markle and Harry were included in the @KensingtonRoyal Instagram account, along with Prince William and Kate Middleton.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex started their own @SussexRoyal account one year into their marriage, but it was shut down in 2020 when they left their senior royal duties and relocated to California.
In a 2022 interview with "The Cut," Markle hinted at the possibility of rejoining the digital world.
"Do you want to know a secret? I'm returning to Instagram," she said at the time.
Prince Harry has spoken out about rumors surrounding his marriage following reports of him and Meghan Markle attending events apart.
During The New York Times Dealbook Summit 2024 at Jazz at Lincoln Center, moderator Andrew Ross Sorkin posed the question: "Why are you doing independent events, and why aren't you doing them together?"
Harry responded, "You should have anticipated this outcome because you invited me."
Harry confessed that it was "definitely not a good thing" that there was so much interest in him and his wife, citing rumors he'd heard about them.
"We've bought or moved houses 10, 12 times, and apparently divorced just as many times. So what's the point?"
He added, "It's hard to keep up with, but that's why you just sort of ignore it. The people I feel most sorry about are the trolls," he said. "Their hopes are just built and built, and it's like, ‘Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,’ and then it doesn't happen. So I feel sorry for them. Genuinely, I do."
