On Friday, Simmons, famous for his "Sweatin' to the Oldies" workout videos, turned 76 years old.
According to both ABC News and NBC News, his death was confirmed by his rep and two law enforcement sources.
On Friday, Simmons posted on Facebook that he had never received so many birthday messages in his life.
This morning, at 10 a.m., a death investigation was completed at Simmons' home and the LAPD responded, as per a spokesperson's statement to Planet Chronicle Digital.
The former fitness coach, who retired from the public eye 10 years ago, expressed gratitude for being alive after being diagnosed with skin cancer in an interview with People magazine this week.
He said he planned to blow out a candle to mark the occasion, but "Probably, the candle will be on a zucchini. I'm a vegetarian."
"He expressed gratitude for being alive and spending his birthday helping others, as he does every day."
In March, Simmons shared with his followers that he had been diagnosed with skin cancer. He used Facebook to describe the discovery and the treatment he received in an effort to eliminate the cancerous cells.
