A crew member of the 'Rust' film set recalls a moment of panic following the fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins.
Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer on the set of "Rust," is charged with involuntary manslaughter.
On the day Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot, the "Rust" film set, directed by Alec Baldwin, was in a state of chaos.
On Monday, during Hannah Gutierrez-Reed's criminal trial, Ross Addiego, a dolly grip member of the "Rust" crew, stated that production was proceeding at an incredible pace in order to meet an ambitious schedule on the Santa Fe set of the Western film.
Although there was a disagreement among the camera crew earlier in the day, Addiego stayed on set and was present in the church when Baldwin's gun went off and killed Hutchins. In court, he broke down in tears while describing the aftermath of the shooting.
The armorer, Gutierrez-Reed, was accused of involuntary manslaughter and could receive a sentence of up to 18 months in prison and a fine of $5,000.
Gutierrez-Reed was also accused of evidence tampering after it was claimed that he passed on a bag of cocaine on the day of the shooting. The jury selection process commenced on Wednesday and took the entire day. From a pool of 70 potential jurors, seven men and five women were eventually chosen.
Addiego stated, "We consistently felt pressured and in a hurry to complete tasks and progress."
According to Addiego's understanding, Baldwin was supposed to reveal the weapon emerging from the holster to the camera during the church scene filming.
Addiego stated that Alec had drawn the action once to audition for Joel Souza, and then he drew it again. The action went off, and a firearm was fired in a small wooden church. The concussion, ears ringing, and panic ensued.
"I believe the first person I locked eyes with was Halyna, who appeared to be harmed by the gunshot. The sound we had just heard," he stated through tears.
"She started to blush, and I think I held her right side. Then I think Joel made a noise to indicate he was also injured, and my attention went to him because he was the closest."
Addiego yelled out, "If you can't help us, get the f--k out of here and, someone call 911."
On Oct. 21, 2021, Baldwin stated that he did not pull the trigger of the gun that resulted in Halyna Hutchins' death.
According to court documents obtained by Planet Chronicle Digital, Gutierrez Reed has been accused by special prosecutors of bringing live ammo to set and using drugs in the days leading up to the 2021 shooting that resulted in his death.
