To close out the show, Carey continued to sing her popular Christmas song.
Planet Chronicle Digital reached out to a representative for Carey for comment.
Since its release in 1994, "All I Want for Christmas is You" by Carey has been a staple holiday song, reaching the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and selling over 10 million copies.
In an interview with W Magazine, the singer-songwriter previously revealed the origin of the song.
"According to Carey, the concept of her doing a Christmas album originated from the record company. At the beginning of her career, she felt it was premature to release a Christmas album, but she ultimately decided to do it because she loves Christmas. Despite having some sad Christmases as a child, she tries to find the positive aspects of the holiday."
She explained that she didn't want the product to be associated with a particular era, so they avoided using sounds that were popular during that time. This way, it would have a timeless and enduring feel.
"I never imagined that it would become such a significant aspect of my existence."
In November 2023, Andy Stone sued Carey over the hit song "All I Want for Christmas is You," alleging that the popular holiday song infringed on his copyright. Stone, the lead vocalist of Vince Vance and the Valiants, co-wrote his song in 1989. Stone accused Carey and her team of copying his song's "compositional structure," according to the complaint obtained by Planet Chronicle Digital.
The court found that Carey copied "approximately 50%" of Stone's 1989 hit and "directly" copied lyrics from the song, which constitutes copyright infringement.
Carey and her team likely had access to Stone's version of "All I Want for Christmas is You" because of its widespread commercial and cultural success. Stone's song remained on the Billboard charts for several years, and his band performed it during a White House appearance in 1994, the same year Carey's song was released.
Carey filed to have the lawsuit dismissed in August.
During a November hearing, Judge Mónica Ramírez Almadani considered dismissing the case and was considering imposing sanctions on Stone and his legal team for filing a "frivolous" lawsuit, according to court documents obtained by Planet Chronicle Digital. The case remains open.
In June 2022, Carey was sued by Stone in a Louisiana court, but the claim was later dropped five months later, according to People magazine.
