Video footage shows hero jurors preventing a handcuffed convict from escaping.
Nicholas Carter, a child abuser from Maine, failed in his attempt to escape.
An escaped child abuser was recaptured by a pair of Maine jurors after being caught on video running out of the Somerset County Courthouse while handcuffed, according to local reports.
A 14-month-old was assaulted and 31-year-old Nicholas Carter was convicted after a three-day trial.
On Wednesday, he allegedly escaped from the courtroom after being convicted and avoided being escorted to jail by authorities.
A man in handcuffs, with no hair, runs through a courthouse hallway, down a lobby staircase, and out the door, with two plainclothes officers chasing after him.
He was seen running outside with a group of officers and bystanders following him before he stumbled and fell on his face across the street.
Two bystanders pounced.
It turns out, according to the Morning Sentinel, they were jurors.
Whether they were involved in Carter's case or a different matter was not immediately clear.
Carter has not yet been sentenced for the assault conviction, and he is also expected to face new charges in connection with the escape attempt.
On the day of his short-lived escape, the slippery child abuser was arrested and put behind bars by 2:18 p.m., according to jail records.
He stands at 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds, according to sheriff's records.
The Sentinel reported that the failed escape of a prisoner at the courthouse was the second security breach this year.
In April, a man in the gallery was stopped by an officer who used a Taser. The man had charged the killer convicted of stabbing his sister 99 times.
According to authorities, he was escorted out of the courtroom but will not be prosecuted.
