In Minden, Louisiana, an 82-year-old man and his 31-year-old daughter were discovered deceased in their home.
Over the weekend, a 10-year-old boy from Louisiana was arrested after confessing to authorities that he had fatally shot the former mayor and his adult daughter.
On Sunday at 6:30 a.m., the police arrived at a Minden home and discovered the lifeless bodies of former councilman and interim mayor Joe Cornelius Sr., 82, and his daughter, 31-year-old Keisha Miles, who had been shot multiple times, according to KSLA-TV.
The police station reported that a guardian brought the boy in, who allegedly confessed to the killings.
The police have not disclosed the identity of the 10-year-old boy or his connection to the victims, while investigators have not provided information on the cause of the shooting.
An argument over credit card charges for video games led to eight gunshots being heard, according to neighbors who informed the station.
The outlet reported that Jared McIver, the Minden Police Chief, stated that the boy did not express any regret over the alleged murders.
In a social media post, Nick Cox, the mayor of Minden, honored Cornelius for his contributions to the community.
"Joe Cornelius's years of service to Minden were characterized by his unwavering commitment and dedication to improving our community," Cox stated. "On a personal level, I am deeply grateful for his friendship and the countless ways he supported me and others in our city."
Cox asked the public to keep Cornelius’ family in their prayers.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
