A top aide to moderate Democrats resigned after a lawmaker's comments about "formerly male" athletes.
A moderate Democrat and military veteran, Rep. Seth Moulton serves in Congress.
A top aide to Rep. Seth Moulton, a moderate Democrat from Massachusetts, has reportedly resigned following the lawmaker's recent comments about transgender athletes and the left's tolerance for dissenting views.
After an interview with The New York Times, Moulton faced criticism from progressives for using transgender athletes in school sports to illustrate his complaint about liberals' lack of dissent.
According to the Boston Globe, Matt Chilliak resigned from his position as campaign manager hours after the interview was published.
The report lacked a reason for its findings, and Moulton's campaign declined to discuss personnel issues.
Planet Chronicle Digital reached out to Chilliak for confirmation.
The operative posted on X after Trump's election victory, stating that millions of Americans hate immigrants and transgender people more than they fear fascism.
According to the Times, Moulton stated that Democrats spend too much time trying not to offend anyone and should be brutally honest about the challenges many Americans face.
He stated that he has two young daughters and is concerned about their safety on a playing field from a male or formerly male athlete, but as a Democrat, he feels hesitant to express this fear.
The congressman defended his stance on limiting male participation in competitive women's sports, stating that he strongly believes in the need for such restrictions due to the physical advantages that come with being born male.
Moulton stated that he is a strong supporter of civil rights for all Americans, including transgender rights, and will continue to fight for the safety and rights of all citizens. He emphasized that these two ideas are not mutually exclusive and that people can have different opinions on them.
"Although many on the far left of social media claim that I have failed the unspoken Democratic Party purity test, it is not true that we lost the 2024 election due to any transgender person or issue. Instead, we lost because we belittled and shamed too many voters' opinions, which needs to stop. It is time for us to have these debates, establish a new strategy for our party since our current one has failed, and then come together to oppose the Trump agenda, which threatens American values."
Moulton's comments in the Times have intensified the vulnerability of the LGBTQ community, according to Mass Equality.
The group stated that the Congressman's comments were both damaging and contained inaccuracies.
John Moran, a Massachusetts state lawmaker, wrote on X, "We shouldn't be afraid to say that Seth Moulton should find another job if he wants to use an election loss as an opportunity to criticize our most vulnerable and weak."
Democratic lawmakers, including him, are not the only ones accusing their party of wearing political blinders following the 2024 elections.
Rep. Ritchie Torres, D-N.Y., stated in X that politically, there is more to lose than to gain by catering to a far-left ideology that is more aligned with social media platforms such as Twitter, Twitch, and TikTok than with the real world. The working class is not swayed by the elitist rhetoric that the far left is promoting.
