On July 3, 2021, a 46-year-old golf professional and PGA director of golf at Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw, Georgia, was tragically shot and killed in a senseless crime.

Ashley Siller, the graduate of Purdue University, survived by his wife, two sons, parents, and sisters, was four days shy of his birthday.

During the July Fourth weekend, while working on the golf course, Siller observed a white pickup truck driving onto the 10th green and hanging over the edge of a sand trap. According to authorities, Siller discovered a "crime in progress" and was fatally shot by Bryan Rhoden, who was 23 years old at the time.

In an interview conducted in August 2021, Siller's wife stated that Gene would not want his loved ones to grieve or feel sad. Instead, he would want them to honor his memory by celebrating his life and doing something kind for others.

Gene Siller was known for playing 18 holes of golf with his sons every Sunday and was highly respected for his big heart towards people and animals.

According to WSB-TV, the police discovered two additional bodies at the scene and identified them as Rhoden's victims, 46-year-old Henry Valdez and 76-year-old Paul Pierson. These men were Rhoden's drug suppliers and shippers, the police said.

An active crime was discovered by Siller at the golf course, according to police.

A few hours after the killings, Rhoden was arrested by the Chamblee Police Department and indicted on charges such as kidnapping with bodily injury, malice murder, and felony murder. He was being held at Cobb County Jail at the time.

According to Fox 5 Atlanta, Rhoden, who was incarcerated and awaiting a September 2022 hearing, posted on Instagram and referred to his charges as "erroneous."

On Sept. 1, Rhoden entered a not guilty plea before Superior Court Judge Robert Flournoy III of Cobb County, with District Attorney Flynn Broady present. Broady had previously stated his intention to seek the death penalty before the hearing.

Justin Caleb Pruitt, who was listed as a "co-conspirator and accomplice," was arrested and indicted on charges including felony murder and kidnapping with bodily injury. According to the Marietta Daily Journal, Rhoden and Pruitt together were accused of binding Valdez and Pierson with duct tape and zip ties before holding them against their will.

In 2019, Pruitt was indicted, along with 12 others, by a South Carolina grand jury for alleged cocaine trafficking and conspiracy to traffic cocaine dating back to 2011.

At the age of 26, Taylor Nicole Cameron, a Georgia mother, was arrested and charged with attempting to tamper with evidence during the investigation into the triple homicide.

In early January 2022, Cameron was arrested based on messages exchanged with Rhoden that provided sufficient evidence of planning to drive to the golf course and retrieve the murder weapon.

Rhoden was sentenced to life in prison after accepting a negotiated plea deal in February 2024.

On Feb. 2, 2024, he admitted guilt to all 17 charges, which included felony murder, malice murder, kidnapping with bodily injury, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, aggravated assault, and tampering with evidence.

According to WSB-TV, text messages revealed that Rhoden was out drinking with a female companion following the shootings of three individuals.

In the February 2024 court hearing, Siller's wife confronted the murderer of her husband and inquired, "Casamigos, the drink of choice for 'I just murdered three people'?"

In court, Ashley stated that Rhoden was a "monster" and his "lack of remorse is so insulting."

Pruitt and Cameron’s cases are still pending.
