LA deputy mayor suspended following FBI search of home over bomb threat accusations.
In March 2023, Mayor Karen Bass and Deputy Mayor Brian Williams commenced collaborating.
An investigation found that the deputy mayor of Los Angeles made a bomb threat against City Hall earlier this year, leading to his placement on leave.
The FBI raided the Pasadena, California home of LA Deputy Mayor Brian Williams on Tuesday in connection with an investigation into a bomb threat against City Hall in September. No arrests were made during the search.
On Wednesday, the LA Mayor's office announced that Williams had been placed on leave.
"Yesterday, the FBI searched the home of Deputy Mayor Brian Williams as part of an investigation into a bomb threat he allegedly made against City Hall earlier this year. LA deputy mayor of communications Zach Seidl confirmed this in a statement provided to Planet Chronicle Digital. Williams was immediately placed on administrative leave, and the Mayor takes this matter very seriously."
The Los Angeles Police Department investigated the matter when the threat was reported and concluded that there was no immediate danger to the building, according to Seidl.
The FBI is now investigating the matter referred to them by the LAPD.
An investigation concluded that Williams was most likely the "source of the threat," according to the police.
"The LAPD stated that the investigation was referred to the FBI due to the department's working relationship with Mr. Williams. The FBI is still the investigating agency."
No additional information was released about the ongoing investigation.
In March 2023, Williams commenced working in Bass' office and was assigned to collaborate with the police and fire departments, as well as other essential safety departments.
He was the executive director of the Los Angeles County Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission for seven years prior to joining the Mayor's team.
