Colorado mayor addresses viral video of armed Venezuelan gang in apartment: 'Policy failure'
The federal government's failed border policy is responsible for Aurora's status as a victim, according to Mayor Coffman.
At least two apartment buildings in Aurora, Colorado have been taken over by Venezuelan gangs, confirmed Mayor Mike Coffman on Thursday after surveillance footage of armed gang members in an apartment complex went viral online.
A video has been released showing an armed gang believed to have taken over a troubled apartment building in Colorado. The mayor admitted on-air that a Tren de Aragua gang leader, "Cookie Monster," has been apprehended. The mayor stated that this is an organized criminal effort, but it is unclear whether it is a trend or a drug war. The mayor's office did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment on the organized crime activities of Tren de Aragua in the Aurora area.
The city of Aurora is facing issues with Venezuelan gangs taking over apartment buildings in the area. Mayor Coffman claims that the city is a victim of federal policy and nearby Denver's sanctuary city policy. He stated that the city did not create this problem and it is not their responsibility to resolve it.
The mayor of Aurora stated that the city has been dealing with an influx of migrants who have crossed the border illegally and were not adequately vetted. Despite their efforts to keep them out, the federal government is responsible for addressing this issue.
One Aurora mom has gone viral for her video expressing her concerns about taking her children to public parks in the area due to the presence of Venezuelan gangs. She asked, "Is this life getting any better when you're bringing what was there here?" Aurora PD has not released any new statements on the matter since their social media post on Wednesday, calling the situation "isolated."
