Trump's selection for US ambassador to UK causes Jets fans to groan.
The Seattle Seahawks defeated the Jets, leaving them with a record of 3-9 this season.
The appointment of billionaire investment banker Warren A. Stephens as the U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom by President-elect Donald Trump on Monday shattered the hopes of New York Jets fans.
Trump announced his selection on Truth Social, and the Senate will need to confirm it.
"Warren has always dreamed of serving the United States full time, and I am thrilled that he will now have that opportunity as the top Diplomat, representing the U.S.A. to one of America’s most cherished and beloved Allies," Trump wrote in the post.
The Jets fans had hoped that Trump would appoint Woody Johnson as the U.K. ambassador in his second term, as he had done in his first term from 2017 to 2021. However, it was Christopher Johnson, Woody's brother, who took over operations and made personnel decisions for the team.
Since 2016, the Jets have only won seven games in a season, with their best record being 7-9 in 2019. They won 10 games in 2015 but have not made the playoffs since 2010.
Trump's decision was met with frustration from New York fans, but Johnson may still be appointed to another position.
Despite the excitement surrounding the Jets' playoff prospects with Aaron Rodgers, the team has struggled this season with a 3-9 record. The team fired Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas mid-season, and the addition of Davante Adams has not yet yielded positive results.
With a few weeks remaining in the season, New York is currently in third place in the AFC East.
