Miami mascot accused of flirting during Syracuse upset by college football reporter.
The ACC championship game saw Miami's elimination on Sunday with a loss.
Miami fans had a difficult weekend, and their mascot faced an even greater challenge.
On Saturday, Ashley Wenskoski, a CNY Central anchor and reporter, was at "The Dome" covering Syracuse's game against Miami. During the game, she publicly accused Miami's mascot, Sebastian, of hitting on her while she was reporting on the sidelines.
"Mid-drive, Sebastian the Ibis (Miami's mascot) asked for my number," she wrote on X.
"He seems to have more pressing concerns with his team struggling in the 4th quarter at the Dome, but I'm not one to judge."
On Saturday, Miami was eliminated from the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game by Syracuse, who won 42-38. The Orange's quarterback, Kyle McCord, played a crucial role in the comeback, completing 26 out of 36 passes for 380 yards and three touchdowns.
The CFP selection committee's decision on their playoff hopes caused Sebastian to lose focus on the game, as Wenskoski concurred.
In a post on X, she wrote about how Syracuse football won its biggest game in years and how she and her team worked hard to provide the best sports coverage.
"Fran Brown, the head coach, has revitalized a sports program in a thriving town. It seems that Miami's mascot couldn't bear to watch the 4th quarter. No fault on his part."
But the mascot did respond to being called out on social media.
"Clout is everything to them," Sebastian the Ibis commented on an Instagram post about the incident.
