Auburn coach Bruce Pearl commends NYC mayor's response to criticism regarding meeting with incoming border czar.
Pearl is not afraid to tackle political issues.
On Tuesday, Auburn Tigers men's basketball coach Bruce Pearl once again addressed some of the controversial political issues in the US.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams received applause from Pearl after he rejected criticism from the left about his meeting with President-elect Donald Trump's border czar Tom Homan.
Pearl expressed gratitude to Mayor Adams in a X post.
During a press conference, Adams was questioned about whether he would meet with Homan, who was appointed by President-elect Trump to lead the mass deportation operation he plans to implement after being inaugurated.
He highlighted the city's welcoming attitude towards immigrants and underscored the efforts being made to facilitate the application process for Temporary Protected Status and work authorization, as well as the provision of services such as case management for migrants. He added that there has been a 21-week decline in migrant arrivals.
Adams stated that he was the one who contacted Homan and desired to speak with him, and he pledged not to engage in conflict with the next administration.
Adams defended himself against criticism from the left by referencing past comments by Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, arguing that they had also advocated for the deportation of criminal illegal immigrants and dismissed the concept of "cancel culture."
"I will protect the people of this city, and if you come into this country, in this city, and think you're going to harm innocent New Yorkers and innocent migrants and asylum seekers, this is not the mayor you want to be in a city under," he declared.
Over the past year, Pearl has publicly expressed his views on significant geopolitical issues, particularly his support for Israel following Hamas' terrorist attack in the country.
